北宋时期，洛阳女子贺怜怜与汴梁才子王涣一见钟情就订了婚。贺家嫌王涣家贫就把怜怜另许配给种师道手下军需官高常彬。王涣装作卖查梨的前去承天寺里见怜怜，遇到高常彬回家，王涣吓得魂飞魄散。王涣后来参军立下军功，夺回怜怜白头到老。
