斜阳外，春雨足，风吹皱一池寒玉。画楼中有人情正苦，杜鹃声莫啼归去。
落梅风·斜阳外鉴赏
李致远这首小令状写离情。前三句写景，后二句写情。开头即以“斜阳”、“春雨”渲染雨后春晚的寂静落寞。“风吹皱一池寒玉”，初看是对外在世界的描写，其实亦是对主人公的内心感受的揭示，不妨视为过渡句。第四句“画楼中有人情正苦”才开始正面点题，直接道出离人之“苦”。尾句“杜鹃声莫啼归去”，表达了企盼离人早归的殷切之意。整个作品用语含蓄，使相思的凄苦表达得更为深沉。

李致远，生平事迹不详。何梦华抄本《太平乐府》注云“江右（今江西）”至元中，客居溧阳（今属江苏）。存小令26首，套数4篇及杂剧《还牢未》。仇远相交甚密。据仇远写给李致远的《和李志远君深秀才》诗中说他“有才未遇政绩损”“亦固穷忘怨尤”“一瓢陋巷誓不出，孤云野鹤心自由”，可以看出他仕途不顺，一生郁郁不得志，但性格孤傲清高。《太和正音谱》列其为曲坛名家，评其曲曰：“如玉匣昆吾。”
