译文
生前在西湖边青葱的山岭上构筑庐舍，死后坟头上应该是秋色萧索。
哪一天皇帝要搜求我的遗稿，我应该庆幸从来没有写过什么谈封禅之书。
注释
寿堂：停放死者棺木以行祭礼的厅堂。此处指坟墓。书：书写。一绝：一首绝句。志：记。
青山：青葱的山岭。此指西湖孤山。结庐：构筑房舍。
萧疏：寂寞，凄凉。
茂陵：汉武帝陵墓，这里即指汉武帝。遗稿：指前人遗留下的手稿。
封禅（shàn）书：指司马相如言封禅事的遗书。
自作寿堂因书一绝以志之创作背景
林逋生前一身梅香，也很在意自己死后的声名。史载，林和靖（林逋字和靖）既老，自为墓于庐侧，因作诗，即《自作寿堂因书一绝以志之》。此诗当是作者临终明志之作。

“湖上青山对结庐，坟前修竹亦萧疏”二句，从“结庐”和“坟前”落笔，由生前写到身后，形象地总结了他的一生。林逋是个清苦的隐逸诗人。绿波荡漾的西子湖水，翠竹葱茏的湖心孤山，令这位“梅妻鹤子”的诗人留连徜徉。这面湖依山的庐舍，正是他朝夕相处之所。诗人在此，虽“家贫衣食不足”，却“性活淡好古，弗趋荣利”，杭州近在咫尺，居然“二十年足不及城市”（均见《宋史》本传），足见其安贫乐道的志趣。首句侧重写的是“庐”，是述他生前，次句紧扣的则是“坟”，是述他身后。庐是于湖上青山相对，坟是修竹萧疏。前后相溶，然还有第二层的意思在里面，第一句乃是写生前之状，第二句则是想像之景了。虽是清苦冷落，但句子中表现出作者的一些自许和自得。林逋生前在庐侧造墓穴，自有长眠于湖光山色间之意。“亦萧疏”三字，示身后的萧条，正见隐士本色。
《后村诗话》说林逋一生苦吟，自摘十三联五言，唯五联存集中，梅尧臣序其诗集，更叹“所存百无一二焉，于戏惜哉！”林逋也曾说：“吾方晦迹林壑，且不欲以诗名一时，况后世乎！”但好事者往往窃记之，所以遗稿尚有数百篇。“茂陵他日求遗稿，犹喜曾无封禅书”二句，是作者以遗稿中并无封禅书一类阿谀谄媚文字自慰，以示高洁。据《汉书·司马相如传》，司马相如死后，汉武帝曾从他家中取到一卷谈封禅之书。所言不外歌颂汉皇功德，建议举行“封泰山，禅梁父”的大典。林逋借古喻今，表明决不屑于像司马相如那样希宠求荣。“犹喜”，“曾无”俱为庆幸之语，感情色彩很是浓烈。这二句是林逋名句，颇为后人传诵，之所以如此，并非在于它是奇语、丽句，而是因为它表现出诗人的高尚志节。宋真宗时，大臣王钦若等伪造符瑞，怂恿真宗东封泰山，借以邀宠。林逋这两句诗是针对此事而发，立意高绝。秦观曾称赞说：“识趣过人如此，其风姿安得不高妙也！”后代文人在用司马相如草封禅书之事时，有正用反用之别，王禹偁《谪守黄冈谢表》中“茂陵封禅之书，惟期死报”之语，是正用，林逋这里是反用。对此，严有翼认为林逋要高出王禹偁一筹。以后胡仔虽颇不以为然，但林逋此二句流传之广，决非王禹偁句之可比却是事实。林逋生当北宋盛世，诗文颇有名，却淡于荣利，终生布衣，诗中所表白的，并非虚语，所透出的是一股高逸淡远之气。

林逋（967一1028）字君复，汉族，浙江大里黄贤村人（一说杭州钱塘）。幼时刻苦好学，通晓经史百家。书载性孤高自好，喜恬淡，勿趋荣利。长大后，曾漫游江淮间，后隐居杭州西湖，结庐孤山。常驾小舟遍游西湖诸寺庙，与高僧诗友相往还。每逢客至，叫门童子纵鹤放飞，林逋见鹤必棹舟归来。作诗随就随弃，从不留存。1028年（天圣六年）卒。其侄林彰（朝散大夫）、林彬（盈州令）同至杭州，治丧尽礼。宋仁宗赐谥“和靖先生”。
