译文
天色已晚，小院里忽然添了几分寒意，便觉得此时衣裳有些单薄了。一个人独饮闷酒，对着自己的影子对饮长歌。
我怀念在萧寺中惺惺相惜的友人是否衣缕单薄，不抵风寒呢。西风劲吹夕阳，随着晚风，天气转寒，自是那槐花也承受不起这寒风，萧萧索索，落了一阵。
注释
点绛唇：词牌名。此调因梁，江淹《咏美人春游》诗中有“白雪凝琼貌，明珠点绛唇”句而取名。四十一字，上阕四句，从第二句起用三仄韵；下阕五句，亦从第二句起用四仄韵。 《词律》认为上阕第二句第一字宜用去声，“作平则不起调”，但亦有作平起调者。又有《点樱桃》、《十八香》、《南浦月》、《沙头雨》、《寻瑶草》、《万年春》异名。
罗衫：丝织衣衫。
酌（zhuó）：饮（酒）。
酬酢（chóu zuò）：客相互敬酒，主敬客曰酬，客敬主曰酢。此处是说独自酌饮，唯有自家的形影相随，非常孤独寂寞。
萧寺：佛寺。李肇《唐国史补》卷：“梁武帝造寺，令萧子云飞白大书‘萧’字，至今一‘萧’字存焉。”后因称佛寺为萧寺。
别绪：分别时的思绪、情感。
萧索：凄清冷落。
西风恶：是说西风的猛烈寒冷。
角：号角，古代的乐器，多用于军营。

点绛唇·小院新凉创作背景
这首词大约成于康熙十七年（1678）秋，是词人为姜宸英所作的思人词。当时，姜宸英一人穷困潦倒借住在佛寺中，词人的意图可能就是邀请姜宸英前来明珠府居住。

点绛唇·小院新凉鉴赏
这是一篇思念故友的作品。
词的上片从自己的感官出发，写怀友心绪。词人以“小院清凉”起笔，言及天气刚刚转冷，后句有“晚来”自然说到那一天至傍晚时，天气变得凉了，而由“清朝‘博学鸿词’考试一般设于秋季”可知，此处说的应该是秋凉。秋凉便觉得有些寒意了。念及此处，便想起了那友人，为下片怀人之言埋下伏笔。而此时词人只能一个人驱寒，“形影空酬酢”一句便把词人自己的伤怀念远、孤独寂寞的心情刻画得惟妙惟肖。
下片自然承接到怀念友人处，提及萧寺。自友人处起笔，想起当初跟友人在萧寺中惺惺相惜之情、对饮长谈之景，对比此刻的自己的形影相吊，忽而不觉黯然。萧寺名虽出自萧姓，但也觉萧索之意，遂有下句“别绪应萧索”。此处词人匠心独运，把自己的感情转而嫁接到随后而至的秋凉之感上，又用萧寺做引子，显得十分巧妙有味，意在含蓄地写出词人与好友都是孤独寂寞的处境，心照不宣地邀请好友来府居住。结句以景结尾，满含悠然不尽之意，从容道来，一点都不带滞凝之感，令人遐思无限。
词人此作将自己的思友之情藏起，上片写己，下片转至友人，把笔触瞄准了各种秋景，景语之处，句句怀人，显得尤为真挚感人。全词意境优美，景情交融，极含婉深致。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
