译文
排列着火把宴饮归来，酒还没有醒，夜晚的街道十分安静，马蹄声也显得很轻快。只见月色洁白，远处的渔火发出点点青光。
乘醉回想平生往事，满怀抱负，志向远大，更何况像今夜这样的万丈豪情，我要摘下满天的星星装在袖子里。

①鹧鸪天：鹧鸪天，词牌名，又名“思佳客”“思越人”“醉梅花”“半死梧”“剪朝霞”等。定格为晏几道《鹧鸪天·彩袖殷勤捧玉钟》，此调双调五十五字，前段四句三平韵，后段五句三平韵。
②列炬归来：谓打着灯笼火把夜归。
③六街：泛指城中繁华的街道。
④漫漫：无涯际貌。
⑤渔灯：渔船上的灯火。
⑥从醉里：在酒醉之时。
⑦心事：心中所思虑或期望的事。
⑧峥嵘：卓越不凡的样子。

鹧鸪天·列炬归来酒未醒创作背景
这首词当是1904年至1905年间作于苏州。词人宴饮游乐后归来，在朦胧月色、漫漫薄雾笼罩下，在点点渔火的映衬下，半醉半醒之际所作的一首词。

鹧鸪天·列炬归来酒未醒鉴赏
“列炬”这个词出于杜诗的“列炬散林鸦”，本是写除夕守岁之后打着灯笼火把出去拜年。王国维多次用这个词，有的是写除夕，如《八声甘州》的“列炬严城去”；也有的不是，如这首词提到“月中薄雾”，大年三十晚上是没有月亮的，所以显然不是描写除夕景色。王国维之所以用这个词，乃是以灯笼火把的“动”来衬托六街月夜的“静”。从“列炬归来酒未醒”到“六街人静马蹄轻”和“月中薄雾漫漫白；桥外渔灯点点青”，是一种环境和气氛的转变，其意境颇似冯延巳《抛球乐》的“酒罢歌余兴未阑。小桥流水共盘桓。波摇梅蕊当心白，风人罗衣贴体寒”。二者都是从繁华热闹的人间生活转向冷清孤寂的自然景色，从中体现出内心的一种感受。“酒未醒”也就是“兴未阑”，正由于兴未阑，所以感觉到深夜的大街上特别冷清，只剩下马蹄的声音伴随着自己。
“月中薄雾漫漫白”和“桥外渔灯点点青”都是现实的写景：在月光之下，眼前所有景物都像是罩上了一层迷蒙的白雾；苏州多水多桥，此时雾中的一切都是朦胧的影子，惟有远处水边桥外有渔船上的几点灯光在这静谧迷蒙的画面深处闪闪发亮。这两句，以工整的对仗构成了一幅美丽的月下风景。月下的景色是朦胧的，“酒未醒”的朦胧醉眼在朦胧的月色中捕捉那一闪一闪的光亮，由此联想到在酒意中松弛下来的意识在自由地捕捉那一点一滴的往事。
由于前边的写景中已经有了这种隐约的暗示，所以过片的“从醉里，忆平生”就承上启下，顺理成章了。从醉里忆平生和清醒时忆平生是不同的。清醒时有许多理性考虑的干扰，所以有时候反而不够真实；而在喝醉的时候内心完全放松，不受任何约束，说出来的才是真正的心里话。那么作者对自己平生的反省是什么呢，是“可怜心事太峥嵘”。“峥嵘”本来是山峰高峻的样子，作者用它来形容自己理想志向的特出和不同一般。理想志向太高有什么不好，志向太高了就容易遭受失望的打击。如果一个人的理想只是取得个人温饱也许是容易满足的，但实际上人除了要求温饱之外还有更高层次的精神需求，尤其是受儒家思想影响的中国知识分子，还有一个“士当以天下为己任”的理想。像杜甫，他说自己是“许身一何愚，窃比稷与契”（《自京赴奉先县咏怀五百字》）。稷和契都是辅佐舜的贤臣，而尧舜时代则是儒家理想中的盛世。杜甫身处安史之乱的战乱时代，以一个“布衣”的身份而怀抱有这样的理想，其不现实可想而知。可是他说，“盖棺事则已，此志常觊豁”——只要我不死，我就要为实现我这个理想而努力。杜甫的一生是贫穷的，直到晚年，在“亲朋无一字，老病有孤舟”的境况下，他还在为国家的战乱和人民的流离而悲伤：“戎马关山北，凭轩涕泗流。”（《登岳阳搂》）这是“窃比稷契”的理想给他带来的苦恼。王国维也是一个关怀人生的人，而且比杜甫更进一步，他还渴望解释人生。然而，人生问题到底有没有一个答案，这种思索真是自寻烦恼，是“可怜心事太峥嵘”，“可怜”这个词用得很巧妙，因为它既有“值得怜悯”的意思，也有“可爱”的意思。因“心事太峥嵘”而造成一生的苦恼，值得自怜；为不同凡俗的理想而付出，虽苦犹甜，值得自傲。到底是自怜还是自傲，那种分辨是理性的事，现在他只是说出自己的感受，而这感觉里不知不觉地就渗透了作者清醒时意识形态里所存在的那种理智与感情的矛盾。
正是由于归途中有了这种对平生的反省，所以此夜就做了一个美丽的梦，梦见自己在天上御风而行，轻而易举地就“摘得星辰满袖”。天上的星辰，象征着光明、高远、晶莹、皎洁，在现实中是可望不可即的，而作者在梦中却能够“摘得”，而且“满袖”。那种达成意愿的圆满，那种无求无待的自由，真是一个人在清醒的现实之中连想都不敢想的。一个浑浑噩噩对自己的平生从来都没有过反省的人不会有这样的梦；一个除了物欲与金钱之外再也没有更高向往的人也不会做这样的梦。可以说，“摘得星辰满袖行”不但是对“心事太峥嵘”的一种形象化的解释，而且流露出一种潜意识里对理想的坚持。
然而，“更堪”这个词却是一种理性的反映：高远的理想给人的一生带来的只有失望和痛苦。梦中的理想越是美满，梦醒后的失望越是痛苦，所以是“更堪”——怎么能够再受得了。梦中的意气风发和醒后的失望痛苦形成了强烈的反差，因此这个结尾余音袅袅，有许多没有说出来的东西值得慢慢地咀嚼品味。
全词的那种朦胧与清醒、豪放与怅惘的结合，实际上也就是作者感性与理性的一种微妙的结合。
