译文
我们骑着马在路上相逢，相互高揖马鞭问候，都是在外的游客，客中相见分外怜惜。
想邀你一起击筑悲歌酣饮，击筑悲歌没问题，但正值我倾家荡产无酒钱。
江东的人啊，看钱看得紧，风光不借人，枉杀贫穷人，落花空自春。
不是没有过钱，只是黄金逐手，快进快出，昨日刚刚破产，今朝陷入贫穷。
大丈夫何必空自啸傲，不如烧却头上戴的儒士巾。
你身为进士不得封官进爵，我被秋霜染白了旅途中的双鬓。
时世清明，可是实惠未施及英豪之人，三尺童儿都知道尊重廉颇与蔺相如。
宝剑放在鲨鱼皮的刀鞘里，闲挂在腰间，没有机会用它。
就将它换酒与君醉，醉归以后就寄宿到吴国侠客专诸的家里。
注释
击筑：荆轲嗜洒，每日与高渐离在燕市饮酒，饮至兴酣时，高渐离击筑，荆轲和着筑声唱歌，事见《史记·刺客列传》。后代常用来形容放歌畅饮、悲凉慷慨的情景。筑，古乐器，形如琴，项细肩圆，十三弦。演奏时，用竹尺敲击，故云击筑。
不如烧却头上巾：儒生苦学而无人任用，不如烧掉儒巾。巾，指儒生带的头巾。
君为进士不得进：唐代制度,凡应礼部考试而没有及第的人，都可称为进士。考试及第后，称为前进士。“不得进”，指考试不第、不能入仕求得进取。
我被秋霜生旅鬓：我客居在外，鬓上生满白发。秋霜，指白发。
时清：时代清平。
三尺童儿重廉蔺：像廉颇、蔺相如这样著名的将相，也受到三尺儿童的轻视。唾，唾弃，轻视。
鱼昔鱼：鲛鱼，今称沙鱼，皮可以制成刀剑的鞘。
渠：它，指上句的剑。
专诸：春秋时吴国的刺客，曾藏匕首于鱼腹中，刺杀吴王僚，使公子光夺得王位，事见《史记·刺客列传》。

詹瑛先生根据诗中提到“江东风光不借人”，“时清不及英豪人”，以为这首诗当是写在天宝之乱以前，李白流寓江东一带的时期里。这种说法在《李白诗文系年》中，可作鉴赏参考。

诗题中关键性的地方是“醉后”二字，全诗就是从“醉”字上生出许多感发兴会来的。
诗篇首先叙述马上相逢，诗人与从甥际遇相似，况且又在客中相逢，因而产生了“欲邀击筑悲歌饮”的意愿。这里暗用了荆轲、高渐离击筑高歌的典故，点染悲凉的氛围，写出豪爽的侠士风度。诗人本想借酒浇愁，无奈无钱买酒，诗意透过一层，把悲愁的情思写得非常深沉。在欲醉不得的景况下，诗人写出“江东风光”以下六句，从心底深处流露出时光易逝的哀伤；江东此时正春光明媚，可惜即将消逝，如果不及时痛饮行乐，就枉对这良辰美景了。同时，也从心底深处发出愤愤不平的呐喊：黄金已尽，徒然啸傲，不如烧掉儒巾。诗人进一步直抒其情：“君为进士不得进，我被秋霜生旅鬓”虽说时代清平，英豪的人却不得重用，充满了同病相怜、相互慰藉的情意。诗写到这里，题旨已经显影，感情的波澜也被推至高峰，于是结尾四句宕开一笔，写出“且将换酒与君醉”的诗句；收束全篇。历史上有“金貂换酒”、也有“卖剑买犊”的故事，李白把它们糅合起来，转换成将剑换酒的诗意。宝剑既然闲置无用。不如用来换酒，可劝从甥一醉，也求自身一醉。现实生活中形成的种种落寞、飘零、愤激、悲愁的情怀，都可以在“醉后”忘却，也只有在“醉后”才能得以排遣。从欲饮到已醉的片刻中，诗人怀才不遇的愤懑心情，狂放不羁的性格和高镇仕途不得意的无限苦楚，诗人对他的深切同情，都充分地反映出来了。
这首诗为了适应表达题旨的需要，诗入采用了直接抒情的方式，诗篇中绝大多数诗句，都是生活体验的直陈，主观意想的表露，内心激情的倾泻。尽管诗中有“江东风光不借人，枉杀落花空自春”这样的句子，但全诗不是以情景交融的诗境取胜；尽管诗中有“马上相逢揖马鞭”、“且将换酒与君醉”这样的句子，但全诗不是靠细节描写来刻画人物的动态，以构成传神的笔触。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
