译文
山又高树又密太阳出得很迟，早餐时雾和露犹如细雨纷飞。
骑在马上已经走过两座邮舍，路旁人家渐渐打开两扇竹门。
冬青树环绕驿路野蜂乱成阵，荞麦花开田园里山雀不停飞。
明天早上乘船大江送我东去，万里迢迢天风吹动客子之衣。
注释
东流：原为县名，在长江南岸，今属安徽东至县。
食时：古人一日两餐，早餐在日出之后，隅中（太阳当顶）之前，食时指的就是这段时闻。雰（fēn）霏：雾露浓密的样子。
邮舍：通称驿站，宋代替邮铺或邮台。供传递文书的人员和官员歌宿换马的所在。
冬青：一种常绿乔木，分布于长江以南地区。匝（zā）：环绕。

东流道中创作背景
这首诗具体创作年代不详。作者从家乡兴国（今属江西）途径东流沿途的风物，停船上岸看到周围的景象心生哀伤而写下。

东流道中鉴赏
一天，诗人骑着马在东流的驿道上行进。只见四周山高林密，绿色屏障连绵起伏，初升的太阳被遮得严严实实。直到早饭时分，依然雾气迷蒙。诗人策马走过两所邮舍（宋代的邮舍彼此相隔十至二十里）之后，路边的人家才相继打开竹编的门。渐渐地，一切都苏醒了，活闹了。路边的冬青树散发出缕缕清香，惹得野蜂成群而来，上下飞舞；园里的春荞麦有的已经结实，馋嘴的山雀不时前来啄食。置身子这个宁谧幽静而又生机勃发的环境里，倍感身心酣畅，真是难得的享受。诗人转而想到明天就要乘船离去，大江滚滚，天风吹衣，自是气势非凡，然而，“离恨恰如春草，更行更远还生。”（李煜《清平乐》）离开自己的家乡兴国愈来愈远，离开自己熟悉依恋的山区景物愈来愈远，那孤凄惆怅的情怀便会与日俱增。诗的末联语极豪放，但结句“万里天风吹客衣”，着“客”字，顿呈回环跌宕之势，隐隐透露出游子的哀伤，与前六句意脉相连，浑然一体。
朴素、真切是这首诗的最大特色。开头从山区的常态落笔，并没有什么新奇之处，但读来倍感亲切，有如身临其境。原因之一是：它真实地展示了山区早晨（严格地说是上午大部分时间）所特有的环境气氛，不加修饰而境界顿出。原因之二是：诗人善于用虚字勾连烘托，使之前后关照，而又承转自然，不着痕迹。如次旬的“且”字除强调雾露稠密，久不消散这一山区特有的景象外，还和第三句的“已”、第四句的“渐”相互映照，起了浓化情境、突出题旨的作用。
作者王质常以苏轼自况，他的诗放旷不羁，也确乎有点苏轼的气派。以这首为例，脚韵全然合律（除首句押“支”韵，余皆押“微”韵。宋人诗首句常邻韵通押，故不可视为出韵），中间两联对仗也很考究，当是律诗无疑。但平仄的安排不合律处甚多，如首句第二字“高”，四句第二字“家”，当用仄声处却用了平声，纯是拗体，读来自有一种挺拔瘦硬之感，与情韵悠长的唐调不同。
前三联都是描述“东流道中”景物的笔墨，没有大的起伏跳荡，末联落笔于时空的现场之外，风波突起，境界大异。诗人借助于自己的联想能力和腾挪功夫，使作品显得豪气横生，充分体现了宋诗风格。

王质，字华卿，太原祁人。五代祖通，字仲淹，隋末大儒，号文中子。通生福祚，终上蔡主簿。福祚生勉，登进士第，制策登科，位终宝鼎令。勉生怡，终渝州司户。怡生潜，扬州天长丞。质则潜之第五子。少负志操，以家世官卑，思立名于世，以大其门。寓居寿春，躬耕以养母，专以讲学为事，门人受业者大集其门。年甫强仕，不求闻达，亲友规之曰：“以华卿之才，取名位如俯拾地芥耳，安自苦于亹茸者乎？扬名显亲，非耕稼可致也。”质乃白于母，请赴乡举。
