译文
老朋友我再也见不到了，汉水滔滔仍然日夜东流。
请问襄阳遗老今在何方？江山依旧何人再游蔡州？
注释
孟浩然：唐代著名诗人，王维的好友。襄州襄阳（今属湖北）人。与王维同是盛唐山水田园派的代表，并称“王孟”。
故人：老朋友。《庄子·山木》：“夫子出于山，舍于故人之家。”此诗指孟浩然。
汉水：中国中部的一条河，长江最长支流，发源于陕西南部米仓山，流经陕西南部及湖北，在武汉入长江，全长1532公里。
借问：请问。《宋书·萧惠开传》：“虑兴宗不能诣己，戒勒部下：‘蔡会稽部伍若借问，慎不得答。’”襄阳老：此处指孟浩然。
江山：江河山岳。《庄子·山木》：“彼其道远而险，又有江山，我无舟车，奈何？”空：空寂无人。蔡州：一作“蔡洲”。这里泛指孟浩然故乡一带。《全唐诗》诗后有一注曰：“岘山东南一里有蔡洲，蔡瑁居之故云。”

哭孟浩然创作背景
此诗题注：“时为殿中侍御史，知南选，至襄阳有作。”据此可知此诗作于唐玄宗开元二十九年（741年）。王维于当年以殿中侍御史知南选，开元二十九年春到襄阳时孟浩然已死，所以王维作此诗哭悼。

哭孟浩然鉴赏
作者与孟浩然是老朋友了，如今老朋友永远离去了，因此诗一开头就说“故人不可见”。这是直抒胸臆，直抒对故人长逝的哀悼之意。对于老朋友的去世，作者无限悲痛，站在汉水边上，望着滔滔江水东流不胜悲伤。这第二句“汉水日东流”是借景抒情，借汉水日夜奔流不息抒发老朋友一去不复返，也是比喻自己的哀痛与思念之情就像东流之水绵绵不绝。“借问襄阳老，江山空蔡州“两句，兼具直抒胸臆和借景抒情两种手法。上句可看作即景之语，下句景中含情，江山，景象广阔，著一“空”字，显示出物是人非人去楼空的无限感慨和遗憾，借此表达了作者对老朋友的无限思念。直抒胸臆和借景抒情手法并用，使诗篇直中有曲，语短情深。故人长逝，悼惜深情与凄怆涕泪，随诗行奔迸而出。朋友已矣，如江水东流，唯能追寻遗踪以寄哀思。
王孟为知交，王维是深知孟浩然的情意的。孟浩然在《与诸子登岘山》中有“人事有代谢，往来成古今。江山留胜迹，我辈复登临”之句，正是王维这首诗所寄托的感慨。
王维这首诗并无华辞丽藻，其动人心魄处全在于情深。诚如明末清初黄宗羲所言：“情者，可以贯金石，动鬼神。”

王维（701年－761年，一说699年—761年），字摩诘，汉族，河东蒲州（今山西运城）人，祖籍山西祁县，唐朝诗人，有“诗佛”之称。苏轼评价其：“味摩诘之诗，诗中有画；观摩诘之画，画中有诗。”开元九年（721年）中进士，任太乐丞。王维是盛唐诗人的代表，今存诗400余首，重要诗作有《相思》《山居秋暝》等。王维精通佛学，受禅宗影响很大。佛教有一部《维摩诘经》，是王维名和字的由来。王维诗书画都很有名，非常多才多艺，音乐也很精通。与孟浩然合称“王孟”。
