曹司农竹虚言，其族兄自歙往扬州，途经友人家。时盛夏，延坐书屋，甚轩爽，暮欲下榻其中。友人曰：“是有魅，夜不可居。”曹强居之。夜半，有物自门隙蠕蠕入，薄如夹纸。入室后，渐开展作人形，乃女子也。曹殊不畏。忽披发吐舌作缢鬼状。曹笑曰：“犹是发，但稍乱；犹是舌，但稍长，亦何足畏？”忽自摘其首置案上。曹又笑曰：“有首尚不足畏，况无首也。”鬼技穷，倏然。及归途再宿，夜半，门隙又蠕蠕，甫露其首，辄唾曰：“又此败兴物耶？”竟不入。

译文
司农曹竹虚说：他的族兄从歙县去扬州，途中经过朋友家。此时正是盛夏时节，此兄停下行程坐到友人书屋中，觉得这间屋子十分惬意凉爽。天色晚时想要住在这里，友人说：“这里有鬼，晚上不能住在这里的。”此人不管，强要住下。深夜，有东西从门缝间慢慢进入，像夹带的纸一样薄。进入房间后，便逐渐展开化为人的模样，原来是个女子。曹兄完全不怕。那女子忽然披散了头发吐出了长舌，变成吊死鬼的样子。曹笑着说：“同样是头发，只是有些凌乱；同样是舌头，只不过稍稍长了些，有什么好怕的？”那鬼忽然又把自己的头摘下来放到桌子上。曹又笑着说：“有头的我尚且不怕，何况你这没有头的东西！”鬼的招数出尽了，便一瞬间消失了。待到曹从扬州回来，再次住到这里，深夜，门缝再次有东西蠕动。刚露出它的脑袋，曹便唾骂到：“又是那个倒霉的东西吗？”鬼竟然没有进去。
注释
曹司农竹虚言：曹竹虚司农说。司农：学管钱粮的官。清代的户部尚书也别称司农。
歙（shè）：县名。今安徽省歙县。
延：请。
是：这里。
夹纸：作夹带用的纸，极薄。夹带：旧时考生应试，私带预先抄好的文字资料或书籍入考场。
殊不畏：一点儿也不害怕。
倏然：很快地。这里指很快地消失不见了。
甚：很，十分。
及：等到。
轩：宽敞。
状：······的样子
穷：用尽
不怕鬼鉴赏
俗话说“邪不压正”，鬼的伎俩在堂堂正正的人面前就无计可施了。鬼是不存在的，但社会上的邪气却是有的，只有发扬正气，邪气才无市场。
见怪不怪，其怪自败。只要心里坦荡不怕，就没有什么可以吓住你了。

纪昀 jǐ yún (1724年6月-- 1805年2月），字晓岚，一字春帆，晚号石云，道号观弈道人。历雍正、乾隆、嘉庆三朝，因其“敏而好学可为文，授之以政无不达”（嘉庆帝御赐碑文），故卒后谥号文达，乡里世称文达公。在文学作品、通俗评论中，常被称为纪晓岚。清乾隆年间的著名学者，政治人物，直隶献县（今中国河北献县）人。官至礼部尚书、协办大学士，曾任《四库全书》总纂修官。代表作品《阅微草堂笔记》。
