观二年，京师旱，蝗虫大起。太宗入苑视禾，见蝗虫，掇数枚而曰：“人以谷为命，而汝食之，是害于百姓。百姓有过，在予一人。尔其有灵，但当蚀我心，无害百姓。”将吞之，左右遽谏曰：“恐诚疾，不可！”太宗：“所冀移灾朕躬，何疾之避！”遂吞之。
唐太宗吞蝗译文及注释
译文
贞观二年，京城长安大旱，蝗虫四起。唐太宗进入园子看粮食（损失情况），看到有蝗虫（在禾苗上面），捉了几只念念有词道：“百姓把粮食当作身家性命，而你吃了它，这对百姓有害。百姓有罪，那些罪过全部在我(身上），你如果真的有灵的话，你就吃我的心吧，不要再害百姓了。”将要吞下去。周围的人忙劝道："恐怕吃了要生病的！不能吃啊！”太宗说道：“我真希望它把给百姓的灾难移给我一个人！为什么要逃避疾病呢？”（说完）马上就把它吞了。

唐太宗吞蝗鉴赏
本文叙述了唐太宗在蝗灾爆发后，吞食蝗虫的故事。文章主要通过语言描写刻画人物形象。唐太宗见到蝗虫后咒骂蝗虫与百姓夺食，“是害于百姓”，可见他首先想到的是人民，忧虑的是民生。人后又说：“百姓有过，在予一人，尔其有灵，但当蚀我心，无害百姓。”言语之中流露出一个心怀子民的帝王甘愿为人民承担责任的勇气。当左右劝止他吃蝗虫时，他说：“所冀移灾朕躬，何疾避之？”进一步表现了唐太宗愿为人民承载灾难的勇气和坚决消灭蝗虫的决心。
