十二山晴花尽开，楚宫双阙对阳台。
楚宫怨二首·其一鉴赏
《竹枝》，是长江中游地区流行的民间曲调，词人即用它来歌咏当地的史事和传说。
“十二山晴花尽开。”“十二山”，即巫峡十二峰，在今四川巫山县东，长江北岸。其中以神女峰最为纤丽奇峭。起句点地，将风光奇丽的巫峡写得花团锦簇。而此地又不仅以风景胜，更有着古老的历史遗迹与浪漫的神话传说，于是乃于第二句“楚宫汉阙对阳台”让它们有机地联系起来。“楚宫”，是春秋战国时楚王的离宫，俗称“细腰宫”，在巫山县西北，三面皆山，南望长江。“阳台”，一名“阳云台”，在巫山来鹤峰上，南枕长江，高一百二十丈。相传战国时楚怀王曾梦与巫山神女交欢，神女临去时自称“旦为朝云，暮为行雨，朝朝暮暮，阳台之下”。后来，怀王之子顷襄王也梦见过这神女。说见旧题宋玉所撰《高唐赋》和《神女赋》。此句言楚王离宫正门两侧的对称形门楼与神女出没的阳台遥遥相对，明显是影射神话传说中怀王父子与巫山神女间所发生的风流韵事，牵出了楚王荒淫好色的内容。第三句“细腰争舞君沉醉”即进一步渲染之。“细腰”，代指楚宫美人。春秋时，楚灵王以细腰为美，其臣下为了邀得灵王的宠爱，遂皆节制饮食，束紧腰带，甚至于饿得有气无力，须扶着墙壁才能站起身来。事见《墨子·兼爱》。据此推论，则楚宫中的美人自必为细腰了。美人投楚王之所好，扭动纤细的腰肢，争先翩翩起舞，而楚王也就在这欢快气氛中饮酒作乐，终至沉醉。三句层层铺垫，一笔笔勾出了一幅热闹喧天的“楚王行乐图”，其实都是在为第四句蓄势，势既蓄足，即开闸放出一库冰水，只“白日秦兵天下来”七字，就将前二十一字的歌舞升平气象收了个干干净净。据《史记·楚世家》，怀、襄二王统治时期，秦国曾多次举兵攻打楚国，其中以公元前278（顷襄王二十一年）秦将白起攻破楚国都城郢（今湖北江陵西北）、焚烧楚国先王祖坟夷陵（今湖北宜昌东南）的那一次最为惨烈。自此，楚国一蹶不振，五十余年后终于为秦国所灭。此篇结句，就形象地集中地概括了这段史实；虎视眈眈的强秦瞅准了楚王沉醉于酒色之中的机会，光天化日之下，长驱直入楚境，将这富庶而美丽的南方大国并吞了去。
其实，《高唐》、《神女》二赋是否真是宋玉所作，向来就有争议，即便真是，文学作品容许虚构，怀王、襄王父子梦交神女之事也未必属实。二王在历史上并不特别以好色著称，楚国之所以亡于秦，自有其政治、经济、军事、外交诸方面错综复杂的因素在相互作用。然而，咏史词毕竟是“词”而不是“史”，作者不必拘泥于具体的历史事实，他有权遗貌取神。大凡历代的误国、亡国之君，未有不纵欲的，好色贪杯固是一大通病。所以词人攻此一点，也算抓住了要害。
此篇在选材上，它熔铁于金，糅合正史与稗官小说，虚实相济，乃显得活泼而不拘谨。隶事时，又移花接木，叙怀、襄二王的行状而不假外求，信手拈出其祖先灵王好“细腰”的典故，给人“冰冻三尺非一日之寒”——楚君好色其来也有渐的历史暗示，手法十分机巧。不过，推究其本身的格律，它又符合于一首纯粹的七言绝句，而咏史七绝正是中晚唐作家的拿手好戏，如果从这个角度来看，还不宜夸大它在咏史词发展进程中的意义。

李涉（约806年前后在世），唐代诗人。字不详，自号清溪子，洛（今河南洛阳）人。早岁客梁园，逢兵乱，避地南方，与弟李渤同隐庐山香炉峰下。后出山作幕僚。宪宗时，曾任太子通事舍人。不久，贬为峡州（今湖北宜昌）司仓参军，在峡中蹭蹬十年，遇赦放还，复归洛阳，隐于少室。文宗大和（827-835）中，任国子博士，世称“李博士”。著有《李涉诗》一卷。存词六首。
