译文
皇上曾经到世外巡游，他的六马车驾在此作了短暂停留。
纵有返魂树也不能使人还魂回生，只有鲜血化成青草似乎在诉说怨愁。
人已不见香车却又回到京城宫殿，人去楼空而晨钟依旧。
纵作甘泉宫也不可能招致亡魂再见了，即使是文成将军也难以被封侯。
注释
马嵬驿：即马嵬坡，故址在今陕西省兴平市西北二十三里，距离长安（今西安）百余里。
穆满：周穆王名满，在位诗曾西征犬戎。此以周穆王喻唐玄宗，以“物外游”称其奔蜀避乱。物外，世俗之外，即非人间的仙境。
六龙：原指周穆王驾驭的骏马，此喻指唐玄宗车驾。淹留：停留，逗留。
生，一作“成”。
长乐殿：即汉代长乐宫，西汉高帝时，就秦长乐宫改建而成。汉初皇帝在此视朝。这里用来借指唐玄宗的住处。
景阳楼：即南朝陈景阳殿，为陈后主和张妃（丽华）宴乐之所。这里借称唐玄宗和杨贵妃曾经住过的唐宫。
甘泉：即汉代甘泉宫，原为秦宫，汉武帝增筑扩建，在此朝诸侯王，宴请外国宾客。复：一作“得”。
文成：文成将军，即齐人少翁。

马嵬驿创作背景
唐玄宗天宝十五载（756年）夏六月，安史叛军攻破潼关，唐玄宗与杨国忠、杨贵妃姐妹等仓皇奔蜀，路经马嵬驿，六军徘徊、持戟不前，一致要求诛杀杨国忠。接着，随行郎吏又恳请唐玄宗以杨贵妃搪抵天下怨愤。唐玄宗无奈，只好反袂掩面，让人缢死杨贵妃。此次事件史称“马嵬之变”。温庭筠就是依据这一历史事件创作了这首七言律诗。

马嵬驿鉴赏
此诗首联是以周穆王周游天下的神话传说比喻唐玄宗的奔蜀。这一联实际上是说，安史之乱爆发，潼关失守后，唐玄宗逃奔西蜀，在经过马嵬驿时，车驾作了短暂的停驻。而车驾停驻的原因是发生了“马嵬之变”。
颔联承接上联之脉络，叙述了“马嵬之变”的直接后果：贵妃已死，犹如青烟消逝，纵有返魂树也不能使她还魂回生；如今“不见玉颜空死处”，只有贵妃的鲜血化成的这一片茂密的青草似乎在诉说着她的怨恨。《十洲记》载：“聚窟洲有大树，与枫木相似，花发香闻数百里，名返魂树。死者在地，闻香即活。”又《庄子》：“苌弘死，藏其血，三年化为碧。”这里化用这两个典故，意在说明贵妃在马嵬驿的永逝。诗人省去了马嵬兵变时六军驻马，贵妃与玄宗生离死别的历史情节，而是以形象化的语言，深寓同情地描写了贵妃的悲剧结局。
作为马嵬事变的直接受害者，杨贵妃已经死不复生。而颈联形象地描写了曾经同贵妃订立“愿世世为夫妇”的盟誓的唐玄宗在事变之后过着的生活状况。《新唐书·宦者传》载，收复长安后，肃宗不要玄宗再过问天下大事，由宦官李辅国胁迫太上皇（玄宗）从兴庆宫迁到西宫中。这一联概括地叙述了唐玄宗在经历了一场动乱之后，回到长安，看到的是人去楼空，钟声依旧的悲切情景，饱含着他对亡妃的无限思念之情以及他所度过的孤独、寂寞、凄苦的生活。上下句之间的两个关联词“却”“还”用得极妙。“香辇却归”道出了马嵬事变中玄宗与贵妃一生一死的不同命运；“晓钟还下”写出了钟声依旧人已非的无奈之情。
死者不可复生，生者长恨不已。陈鸿《长恨歌传》说，贵妃死后，玄宗思不能已，命方士寻找贵妃魂魄，方士谎称在海外蓬莱仙山找到了贵妃，并带回金钗钿合作为信物。诗人在尾联却对这一传说提出了质疑：一个命归九泉，一个残生人间，纵作甘泉宫也不可能招致亡灵再相见了，即使是文成将军也难以被封侯。《史记·孝武本纪》说，汉武帝的宠姬王夫人卒，齐人少翁以方术在夜间招引王夫人，使武帝在帷幔中望见。于是封少翁为文成将军，以客礼相待。并作甘泉宫，中为台室，画天、地、泰一诸神，置祭具以招天神。过一年多，少翁的方术渐渐失灵，神不至。于是诛文成将军。这里诗人化用典故，说明了这场悲剧的无可挽回，暗示了玄宗的无尽悲哀与怀念。但是就《长恨歌传》的传说而言，对玄宗重蹈武帝的荒诞，命方士寻找贵妃亡灵的愚蠢作法，诗人不无讥讽之意。
全篇以叙事为主，在描述之中兼有抒情和议论。中间二联杨贵妃、唐玄宗交替描写，在工整的对偶中间以虚字的抑扬，使得率直的叙述变得婉转而流动。全诗通篇用典故，借前朝故事来叙述，别具咏史诗之一格。

温庭筠（约812—866）唐代诗人、词人。本名岐，字飞卿，太原祁（今山西祁县东南）人。富有天才，文思敏捷，每入试，押官韵，八叉手而成八韵，所以也有“温八叉”之称。然恃才不羁，又好讥刺权贵，多犯忌讳，取憎于时，故屡举进士不第，长被贬抑，终生不得志。官终国子助教。精通音律。工诗，与李商隐齐名，时称“温李”。其诗辞藻华丽，秾艳精致，内容多写闺情。其词艺术成就在晚唐诸词人之上，为“花间派”首要词人，对词的发展影响较大。在词史上，与韦庄齐名，并称“温韦”。存词七十余首。后人辑有《温飞卿集》及《金奁集》。
