整日里欢聚在一起赏花观月，几乎把所有的好景都看尽了，都痴迷了；总以为好日子还长着呢。到如今，是谁把宴游的车辆都锁定了，不让我们往来呢？这欢娱像春归一样远远地去了，不可能再复现了。这些事也不敢再想啊，想起来就让人觉得难受。我一直思念着贬居穷荒僻壤的友人们，好长时间了，得不到他们的音讯，想起他们的处境也都与我一样，孤单一人，没有个共解忧愁的伙伴。留恋往日的欢娱，只能惆怅如今无法相会。
夜真长啊，可在长夜里月亮一直未圆，月未圆，人也就难以团圆，我何时才能重上玉楼与你相会呢？我在离家万里之外的郴州，总思念着何时能够返回家乡。可即使我真的能回乡，在离开郴州时，也只是孤零零的一个人，连个唱阳关送别曲的朋友也没有，这多让人受不了啊！东流水，我真恨你呀！原来总以为跟着你能找到一块世外桃源，现在看来白跑了一趟，还是回去吧，不要犹豫了。但把船摇向哪里呢？我该找个人商量商量，细细筹划一下，我下一步的路该怎样走。
注释
1、鼓笛慢：此词调名，比较少见。万树《词律》卷八杜文澜按：“《词谱》以此词归人《水龙吟》调，注云：‘此添字《水龙吟》兼摊破句法，采人以备一体。”’与前《水龙吟》对照，字数句式，多有不同，当为另一体，而以鼓与笛为伴奏者也。
2、乱花：盛开的繁花。
3、穷：尽。
4、艳景：犹美景。
5、迷：迷恋，入迷。
6、欢赏：欢乐游赏。
7、雕鞍（ān）锁定：谓尽力挽留。
8、杳（yǎo）：无影无声，杳无音信。
9、永夜：长夜。
10、婵（chán）娟：本意为美好。后多指月。
11、玉楼：指女子所居之楼。
12、阳关孤唱：阳关，即《阳关曲》，古代送别时所唱。
13、桃源路、欲回双桨：旧注引梁吴均《续齐谐记》刘晨、阮肇入天台山采药遇二仙女事释之，似未尽妥。词云“欲回双桨”，谓入桃源时有船可通也。因知此用陶渊明《桃花源记》事，记云：“晋太元中，武陵人捕鱼为业，缘溪行，忘路之远近，忽逢桃花林。……复前行，欲穷其林。林尽水源，便得一山。山有小口，仿佛若有光，便舍船从口入。”或二事并用，宋词中常见之。双浆：指船。欲回双浆，谓想借船以回到桃源之中去，既远避尘世，又能谐昔日之欢。

宋绍圣元年（1094年），少游坐元祜党籍，贬监处州（今浙江丽水）酒税。此时他心境凄苦，乃修忏于法海寺。三年（1096年），以谒告写佛书为罪，削秩徙郴州（今湖南郴县）。郴州比处州更远，距离词人的故乡和汴京则更为辽远。这首词抒发贬谪郴州时的忧伤之情。

《鼓笛慢·乱花丛里曾携手》初读似是思念佳人，但一点佳人的影子也没有。作者摆了一个迷魂阵，在“佳人”的身上虚晃了几枪，然后转入他对友人们的怀念。作者初到郴州时，有“雾失楼台，月迷津渡，桃源望断元寻处”的慨叹，而此词却说：“苦恨东流水，桃源路欲回双桨。”表现出他对“寻桃源”的疑虑，而更多的考虑则是“我如今怎向”，开始思索今后了，面对现实了。此词是词人在郴州总结自己的过去，考虑自己的未来。
上半阕是回忆他从前的生活，词人在蔡州与汴京时，曾涉足青楼，为歌妓写词。开篇从与恋人携手赏花的美好回忆写起，在对“好梦随春远”的痛惜之中，流露出离别后“香闺正杳，佳欢未偶”的无限惆怅。重上玉楼与佳人团聚这样简单的愿望，却无法实现，因为词人正处在“西出阳关无故人”的孤零处境中，受着现实的种种羁绊，他只能将所有的感伤交付给长长的叹息，相思中透露出身不由己的无奈。因此，词人在结尾处发出“仗何人，细与丁宁问呵，我如今怎向”的疑问，满腹辛酸汨汨流出，既揭示了他对命运的惶惑，更突出了他相思无望的悲凉。
过片紧承前意，脉络不断。表面上仍以绮语写艳情。词人举头望月，月儿还未团圆，它象征着人之团圆时机还未到来。因此他对重上玉楼（重回朝廷）表示怀疑。从写艳情到寄慨身世，都是自然的过渡，如灰蛇蚓线，忽隐忽显，使人不觉，可见艺术手法之高妙。故词人云：“那堪万里，却寻归路，指阳关孤唱。”词人愈贬愈远，求归不得，心绪无比悲凉。古人西出阳关，远征塞外，总有家人与亲友备酒饯别。可是此刻的词人，独自南迁，举目无亲，只能一个人唱着《阳关曲》。“孤唱”二字，用得极妙，它点明了迁客身份，也渲染了凄凉悲苦的氛围。比他略早的张舜民在《卖花声》词中说：“不是渭城西去客，休唱阳关。”张于元丰年间，被谪往郴州，途经洞庭湖畔岳阳楼，写下此词，表达心头的悲愤。少游元祐年间与舜民有交往，也许读过他的《卖花声》，熟悉这一辞旬。张怕听令人肠断的《阳关曲》，秦则一人孤唱《阳关》。二人处境相同，心情相似，但在对待《阳关曲》的艺术处理上，却手法有异。张重于愤，秦偏于悲，在宋代的迁谪文字中各具特色。
此词又不仅仅是一首相思之作。古典诗歌，常常通过男女恋情别抒怀抱。秦观此词，就能从细腻隐约的相思笔墨中读出作者自伤不遇的复杂心境。在他那“不堪思想”的“从前事”中，不仅有对美好恋情的回忆，还有对春风得意的往事的回首。在“谁把雕鞍锁定”的无奈探询中，不仅有恋爱被阻隔的苦恼，更暗合事业遭受打击、壮志消磨的感慨。在“却寻归路”、“欲回双桨”的向往追寻中，不无想要得到朝廷重新任用的期待。在“如今怎向”的茫然中，他面对人生挫折的失意与遗憾之感相当强烈！

秦观（1049-1100）字太虚，又字少游，别号邗沟居士，世称淮海先生。汉族，北宋高邮（今江苏）人，官至太学博士，国史馆编修。秦观一 生坎坷，所写诗词，高古沉重，寄托身世，感人至深。秦观生前行踪所至之处，多有遗迹。如浙江杭州的秦少游祠，丽水的秦少游塑像、淮海先生祠、莺花亭；青田的秦学士祠；湖南郴州三绝碑；广西横县的海棠亭、醉乡亭、淮海堂、淮海书院等。秦观墓在无锡惠山之北粲山上，墓碑上书“秦龙图墓”几个大字。有秦家村、秦家大院以及省级文物保护单位古文游台。
