夜里到清溪住下，主人的家高在碧岩中。
屋檐上挂看闪亮的星星，枕席上响着风声水声。
当月亮落入西山的时候，响起了啾啾的猿鸣。
注释
清溪，源出今安徽池州市南九华山，北流经池州市城东折西北入长江。《一统志》记载：“清溪在池州府，源出氵考溪山，与石人岭水合北流，汇为玉镜潭。又东流经府门外，复折而北，至清溪口入大江。”
主人碧岩里：主人的家在碧岩里。碧岩：山名，今清溪乡五岭村的碧岩，村庄四周全是陡峭的石山，故名。在贵池城南三十里，当地人又称“密岩”。
檐（yán）楹（yíng）挂星斗：形容住宅所片地势的高。檐，屋顶伸出的边沿。楹：堂前的柱子，也指屋内天井四周的柱子。 响风水：听到风声水声。
啾（jiū）啾：猿鸣声，象声词。此处形容猿声凄历。

天宝十三载（公元754），李白来到池州（今安徽贵池县），此诗与《清溪行》都是在池州时的作品。

宿清溪主人鉴赏
禅是生活，生活离不开诗。历代诗歌里，有禅境或受禅的浸染，带些禅味的，不啻漫无涯际，简直是浩如烟海。唐宋以来的诗人，往往出入于儒道佛之间，几乎没有不沾上一点禅味的。从本性上说，禅是出世，诗是入世，二者原可分离。但自唐以来，二者却如怨偶情鸳，彼此交融，结下了不解之缘。诗人与“清溪主人”因交谊往还而更唱迭和，互相影响，因禅境氤氲而生禅悦，就是一例。
这首著名的禅诗，反映了李白从宦海、尘俗中解脱出来而倾心于艺的一种禅悦心态。诗人虽号“青莲居士”，其实并非佞佛或皈依佛门，而是向往于佛禅之境界、陶醉于佛禅之意趣、所谓士大夫之流的“自耽禅悦”耳。仅从只有六句的诗篇里，就流淌出李白血性中佛禅的一脉灵源，呈现出一种恬淡空灵的禅意悟境。
“夜到清溪宿，主人碧岩里”运用白描手法交代深山夜宿的情景和背景：李白如同一位高级的“游方俗人”，在山中游到天黑，方才找到投宿之处；好在“清溪主人”是位雅士，家住清溪河畔山谷中的“碧岩”里。以“夜”、“宿”、“碧岩里”烘托气氛，能起到点明题旨、升华主题的作用。
“檐楹挂星斗，枕席响风水”写诗人在清溪主人家夜宿的所见所闻：诗人躺在床上，目光透过门窗，掠过“檐楹”，可以欣赏那满天的星斗。枕席之上，诗人还可以欣赏清风和溪水琴鸣般的协奏。真是心中怡悦，无处不成雅趣。诗人借有巨大气势的事物和表现大起大落的动词，如“星斗”、“风”、“水”、“挂”、“响”等，觥筹交错中，使得诗意具有飞扬跋扈又不失唯美伤感的气势。
“月落西山时，啾啾夜猿起”描绘出一幅月落西山、夜猿啾啾鸣的景致：月落鸟啼时，诗人方才欲睡，但又睡不着，因为有“啾啾”的“猿啼”。“月落”、“西山”、“啾啾”则勾画出一副凄凉冷清的景色，这正是诗人怀归忧国，但又无可奈何的渺茫心情的反映。
《宿清溪主人》之所以选入禅诗集，除了与佛门禅意情趣相类之原因外，还在于诗人向社会表示扫除尘氛、洗尽凡心、天机泄露、纵横自如之心境，还在于诗人摆脱了有无得失的滞累、宠辱名利的羁束，姿情地借笔墨传达出他心灵的解脱自在，体现出一种空灵、洒脱、疏淡的禅悦境界。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
