译文
偶尔到江边采摘白蘋，又随着女伴祭奠江神。
当着众人不敢明说心怀，暗暗地投掷金钱，卜问我那远方郎君的音讯。
注释
偶：偶尔，一作“闲”。白蘋：一种水中浮草，夏季开小白花。
赛：祭祀，古代祭神称为赛。
不敢：一作“不得”。分明语：公开表示。
金钱卜：古占卜方式之一，相传是汉代易学家京房所创。最初，卜者在卜卦过程中仅用金钱记爻，后来把这一占卜过程简单化，并逐渐推向民间。卜者把金钱掷在地上，看它在地上翻覆的次数和向背，以决定吉凶、成败、归期、远近等。远人：指远方的丈夫。

江南曲鉴赏
这首诗的开头，没有费笔墨去描绘人物身边的景物和环境，也没有抒发人物的情绪和心理，而是直接描写人物的举止行动。这是别具一格的写法。江边采蘋和赛江神，都是极富生活气息的场景。在迎接热闹非凡的祭江神中，且看女主人公的表现，“偶向”和“还随”两个词语，表现了女主人公的心不在焉。去采白蘋也好，去看赛江神也好，她都是无可无不可，女伴们叫她一声，她就跟着去了，人人都为热闹的大阵势兴高采烈，可是她却没有兴致。她一定是有心事的。这种用人物动作行为暗示人物心理的写法，别具一格。
三、四两句道出女主人公的心事。“不敢”二字写出了女主人公心中的娇怯、羞涩。“语”的内容，应该是想打听自己丈夫远行的吉凶或归期远近。越是炽热地思念，就越是不敢当众剖白心迹，就越能令读者体味到她内心的痛苦之甚，幽怨之多。第三句描绘女主人公羞怯的性格，为结句起了铺垫作用。尾句接着写她偷偷地为“远人”占卜。这一细节描绘将女主人公的纯洁心灵、美好情感表现得自然真实、栩栩如生。
这首写闺情的诗歌，别致之处就在于用细节的刻画，由人物的动作神态，来暗示人物的心理活动，衬写人物的无限情思。“众中不敢分明语，暗掷金钱卜远人”的这一细节，传神生动，使得一个娇羞痴憨的闺中女子的形象跃然纸上，表现了她对爱情的忠诚和对远方丈夫的深切思念。南宋词人王沂孙的《高阳台》中有“屡卜佳期，无凭却恨金钱”的句子，即是借用了这两句的意思。另外，本诗语言淳朴清新，极富生活情趣，贴近生活。
