人有亡斧者，意其邻人之子。视其行步，窃斧也；视其颜色，窃斧也；听其言语，窃斧也；动作态度，无为而不窃斧者也。俄而掘其沟而得其斧，他日，复见其邻之子，其行动、颜色、动作皆无似窃斧者也。

译文
有个人丢了一把斧子，他怀疑是他的邻居家的儿子偷去了，他看到那人走路的样子，像是偷斧子的；看那人脸上的神色，像是偷斧子的；听他的言谈话语，像是偷斧子的；一举一动,没有一样不像是偷斧子的人。不久，他挖掘山沟时却找到了自己的斧子。之后有一天又看见他邻居的儿子，就觉得他的行为、表情、动作，都不像偷斧子的人。
注释
者：有个丢掉斧子的人。
亡：丢掉，丢失。
意：同"臆"，估计，怀疑，猜想。
谷：山谷，地窑。
其：指代邻人之子。
窃：偷盗。
无为而不窃斧也：没有一样不像偷斧子的人。
他日：另一天。
复：再,又。
无似窃斧者：没有一点像偷斧子的样子。
俄而掘其沟而得其斧：不久，（他）挖掘那山谷却找到了自己的斧子。
俄：一会儿，不久。
视：看。
皆：都。
行动：走路的姿势。
颜色：表情。
人有亡斧者鉴赏
《人有亡斧者》讲述的从前有个人丢了一把斧子，他怀疑是邻居家的儿子偷去了，他看到那人走路的样子，是偷斧子的；看那人脸上的神色，是偷斧子的；听他的言谈话语，是偷斧子的；一举一动，没有一样不像偷斧子的人。不久，他挖掘那山谷（土地时）却找到了自己的斧子。第二天又看见他邻居的儿子，就觉得他行为、表情、动作，都不像偷斧子的人。
这则寓言说明，主观成见，是认识客观真理的障碍。当人以成见去观察世界时，必然歪曲原来客观事物的原貌。准确的判断来源于对客观事实的调查，而不是主观的猜想。
不要多疑，重要的是要从实际出发，摆正自己的心态。
不要随便猜疑别人。
