得道便无所谓古今，失道终不免会衰老。
自照自笑镜中之人，满头白发就像霜草。
扪心空自叹息，我的形影为何这般枯槁？
桃李何必多言，早晚会赞成商山四皓。
注释
⑴“桃李”句：语出《史记·李将军列传》：“桃李不言，下自成蹊。”意思是说，桃李结满果实，自然会有人来采摘，树下也会因此踩出一条路来。
⑵南山皓：即商山四皓。李白《金陵歌送别范宣》：“送尔长江万里心，他年来访南山皓。”王琦注：“南山皓，谓汉之四皓。四皓在秦时始入蓝田山，后又入地肺山，汉时匿终南山。”《高士传》：四皓者，皆河内织人也，或在汲。一曰东园公，二曰甪里先生，三曰绮里季，四曰夏黄公，皆修道洁己，非义不动。秦始皇时。见秦政暴虐，乃退入蓝田山而作歌曰：“莫莫高山，深谷透迤。晔晔紫芝，可以疗饥。唐、虞世远，吾将安归？驷马高盖，其忧甚大。富贵之畏人，不如贫贱而肆志。”乃共入商、洛，隐地肺山，以侍天下定。及秦败，汉高闻而征之，不至。深自匿终南山，不能屈己。

览镜书怀创作背景
据诗中“自笑镜中人，白发如霜草”句意来看，此诗当为李白暮年之作。詹锳先生《李白诗文系年》等书将此诗系于唐代宗宝应元年（762年）。

览镜书怀鉴赏
此诗共八句，可分三个部分：发端——览镜——书怀。
开头两句为第一部分。开篇不直接入题，也无惊人之语，甚至有些过于平静，出人意外。似乎诗人是在漫不经心地讲述一个被人们普遍接受的道理：修道成仙的人自然是长生不老，反之，那些凡夫俗子转眼就会走向生命的最后历程。这两句诗看似对道教的肯定，实则是对道教的挖苦。全诗也就由此而引起的。
中间四句为第二部分。在这一部分，诗人紧扣开篇的“衰老”二字，以自己为例证，写览镜之所见；深深的自嘲和自责，形成对报国无门、济世无路的现实的尖刻揭露和批判。李白从来崇尚道教，理应是“得到”之人，可是到头来，依然“白发如霜草”。“自笑”一句举重若轻，接法飘逸，可以说是对自己迷信道教的彻底否定。“空”“何”二字写尽了诗人内心深处的极端痛苦。“自笑”“扪心”“叹息”“问影”几个连续动作则把诗人览镜时的心理活动、外貌特征和神态举止活脱脱地展现在读者面前，俨然是作者晚年的一幅形神兼备的自画像。
最后两句为第三部分。诗人活用了两个典故。诗人变“桃李不言”为“桃李竟何言”，是愤激之辞：我纵有才能，却没有施展的机会，又有什么可说的呢？诗人赞赏“商山四皓”，是希冀自己能像四皓一样，能为国家贡献出自己的余热。两个典故的活用，写出了不合理制度下，杰出人才的悲剧结局，反映了诗人“天生我材必有用”的坚强信念、对邪恶势力的殊死抗争和矢志不渝的政治热情。
全诗通篇并无华丽词句，而仅仅是以议论为主，间以声、色、形、态的逼真刻画，实在而不板滞，悲怆而不消沉，恰如水晶世界，直露、透彻；又似一片冰心，清冷、光明。其感人之处，全在于人格的力量和深刻的内涵。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
