译文
流落天边的老人回不了家，黄昏时分向东来到大江边失声痛哭。
陇右和河源的地再也不能种了，吐蕃的骑兵已侵人了巴蜀。
洪水滔天啊大风拔起了树木，前面飞着秃鹜后面飞着鸿鹄。
多少次捎信给故乡洛阳，十年间骨肉亲朋音讯杳无。
注释
杜诗往往以篇首二字为题，此亦一例。
天边老人：诗人自谓。
大江，嘉陵江。声泪俱下曰哭。
陇右：陇右道，唐代十道之一。辖地为今甘肃陇山以西、乌鲁木齐以东。指广德元年（763）七月吐蕃入侵，尽取河西、陇右之地。
河源：在青海省境内。
胡骑：指广德元年十二月，吐蕃陷松、维、保三州及云山，新筑二城。
秃鹜，一种大型猛禽，又名“座山雕”，状如鹤而大，青苍色，张开翅膀有五六尺。
九度：多次。九，极言其多。洛阳，故里所在。
十年：自天宝十四年（755）安史之乱起，至今已十年。
骨肉：这里指兄弟。

天边行创作背景
此诗当作于公元764年（唐代宗广德二年），当时杜甫复自梓州来阆州，拟由嘉陵江入长江出峡。此诗为杜甫重到阆州时作。当时吐蕃犯境，陇右失守，被战争波及的民众背井离乡，骨肉分离。年逾五旬的诗人在感慨自己回天乏力之余，亦唯有临江而泣矣。

天边行鉴赏
“天边老人归未得，日暮东临大江哭”，这两句是抒情式描写，漂泊天涯、饱受艰辛的诗人，面对浩荡的大江，想起过去的种种，那种突然涌上心头的辛酸、悲苦一下子爆发了出来，声泪俱下。天边老人，杜甫自谓。大江，指嘉陵江。
“陇右河源不种田，胡骑羌兵入巴蜀”，这两句说的是引发诗人临江哭泣的原因，一是有家不能归，一是国家正在遭受外族的入侵，山河破碎。陇右，指陇右道，属于唐代十道之一。包括今天甘肃陇山以西，新疆乌鲁木齐以东及青海东北部的地区。河源，在今天青海省境。763年七月，吐蕃攻占河西、陇右这些地方，十二月陷落松、维、保三州，以及云山、新筑二城。这就是这两句所咏的史事。
这两句写临江所见到的景物，波浪滔天，狂风撼动巨树，鸿鹊飞在了秃鹜的后面。这两句是即景寓情。上句写到了世乱的景象，下旬就感慨自己不能够奋翅急飞，因为前面有“秃鹜”。秃鹜，水鸟，一种比较凶猛的动物。后鸿鹄，指后飞的鸿鹄，“飞”字从上文而省，句法与“东飞驾鹅后鹜鸽”（《乾元中寓居同谷县作歌七首》）同。
“九度附书向洛阳，十年骨肉无消息”，最后这两句也是说哭泣的原因，多次给在洛阳的家人写信，却没有收到回信，没有亲人的消息，分外的担忧。骨肉，这里指兄弟。九度，指九次。这里极力说其多，不一定是确数。

杜甫（712－770），字子美，自号少陵野老，世称“杜工部”、“杜少陵”等，汉族，河南府巩县（今河南省巩义市）人，唐代伟大的现实主义诗人，杜甫被世人尊为“诗圣”，其诗被称为“诗史”。杜甫与李白合称“李杜”，为了跟另外两位诗人李商隐与杜牧即“小李杜”区别开来，杜甫与李白又合称“大李杜”。他忧国忧民，人格高尚，他的约1400余首诗被保留了下来，诗艺精湛，在中国古典诗歌中备受推崇，影响深远。759-766年间曾居成都，后世有杜甫草堂纪念。
