滁州之西南，泉水之涯，欧阳公作州之二年，构亭曰“丰乐”，自为记，以见其名义。既又直丰乐之东几百步，得山之高，构亭曰“醒心”，使巩记之。
凡公与州之宾客者游焉，则必即丰乐以饮。或醉且劳矣，则必即醒心而望，以见夫群山之相环，云烟之相滋，旷野之无穷，草树众而泉石嘉，使目新乎其所睹，耳新乎其所闻，则其心洒然而醒，更欲久而忘归也。故即其所以然而为名，取韩子退之《北湖》之诗云。噫！其可谓善取乐于山泉之间，而名之以见其实，又善者矣。
虽然，公之乐，吾能言之。吾君优游而无为于上，吾民给足而无憾于下。天下之学者，皆为材且良；夷狄鸟兽草木之生者，皆得其宜，公乐也。一山之隅，一泉之旁，岂公乐哉？乃公所寄意于此也。
若公之贤，韩子殁数百年而始有之。今同游之宾客，尚未知公之难遇也。后百千年，有慕公之为人而览公之迹，思欲见之，有不可及之叹，然后知公之难遇也。则凡同游于此者，其可不喜且幸欤！而巩也，又得以文词托名于公文之次，其又不喜且幸欤！

醒心亭记译文及注释
译文
在滁州的西南面，一泓泉水的旁边，欧阳公任知州的第二年，建造了一个名叫“丰乐”的亭子，并亲自作记，以表明这个名称的由来。不久以后，又在丰乐亭的东面几百步，找到一个山势较高的地方，建造了一个叫“醒心”的亭子，让我作记。
每逢欧阳公与州里的宾客们到这里游览，就肯定要到丰乐亭喝酒。有时喝醉了，就一定要登上醒心亭眺望。那里群山环抱、云雾相生、旷野无垠、草木茂盛、泉水嘉美，所见到的美景使人眼花缭乱，所听到的泉声使人为之一振。于是心胸顿觉清爽、洒脱而酒醒，更想久留而不返回了。所以就根据这个缘故给亭命名为“醒心亭”，是取自韩退之的《北湖》诗。啊，这大概可以称得上是善于在山水之间寻找快乐，又用所见到的美景来给它命名吧，这就更有水平了。
尽管这样，我是能够说出欧阳公真正的快乐的。我们的皇帝在上悠然自得，无为清静；我们的百姓在下丰衣足食，心无不满；天下的学者都能成为良材；四方的少数民族以及鸟兽草木等生物都各得其宜。这才是欧阳公真正的快乐啊！一个山角落，一汪清泉水，哪里会是欧阳公的快乐所在呢？他只不过是在这里寄托他的感想啊！
像欧阳公这样的贤人，韩愈死后几百年才产生一个。今天和他同游的宾客还不知道欧阳公那样的贤人是很难遇到的。千百年后，有人仰慕欧阳公的为人，瞻仰他的遗迹，而想要见他的人，就会因没有与他同时代而感叹。到那时，才知道遇到欧阳公真难。如此说来，凡是现在与欧阳公同游的人，能不感到欢喜和幸运吗？而我曾巩又能够用这篇文章托名在欧阳公文章的后面，又能不欢喜和庆幸吗？

滁（chú）州：宋州名，属淮南东路，今安徽省滁州市。
涯：边际。
欧阳公：即欧阳修（1007-1072年），北宋政治家、文学家。

嘉（jiā）：美。
洒（sǎ）然：不拘束的样子。

所以然：可以造成这种醒心的效果。

给（jǐ）足：富裕，丰足。
且良：泛指有才能。
夷（yí）狄（dí）：泛指少数民族。夷：我国古代对东部各民崩的统称。狄：我国古代北部的一个民族。
隅（yú）：角落。
寄意：寄托自已的心意。
殁（mò）：死。
始：才。
托名：依托他人而扬名。

醒心亭记创作背景
宋仁宗庆历七年（1047年）八月十五日，曾巩随父北上，在赴京途中曾巩去滁州拜访了欧阳修，留连二十天。这篇记就是在滁州应欧阳修之请而作。

醒心亭记鉴赏
文章第一段交代了写《醒心亭记》的有关背景及写“记”之缘由。在介绍“醒心亭”之前，作者先介绍了“丰乐”亭。“滁州之西南”，示方位；“泉水之涯”，写环境；“欧阳公作州之二年”，记构亭时间：文笔交代简洁。作者所以写丰乐亭，用意在于以丰乐亭作背景，一方面引出醒心亭的位置，丰乐亭往东几百步的高山上；一方面交代了“醒心亭”的环境。写“丰乐亭”就是在描绘“醒心亭”的画面背景。作者行文纤徐曲折，不开门见山，直至段尾才开始点题。这并未使人感到烦琐，而是使画面更加丰满。
文章第二段写醒心亭之胜。作者以“饮”和“望”两字，概括区分了“丰乐”、“醒心”二亭不同的用途：前者用于饮酒，后者用于览胜。一个“望”字，总领景致之叙：群山相环，云烟弥漫，旷野无垠，草木茂密，泉水清冽，山岩峻秀。作者所以写“望”中之景，是为了引出“望”中的感受：耳目一新，心中畅然清爽，从而点明醒心亭所以名“醒心”的原因，并进一步指明“醒心”一词的出处及典故。按韩退之诗《北湖》关于“醒心”句的一首是：“闻说游湖棹，寻常到此回，应留醒心处，准拟醉时来。”这一引证，也曲折地反映着欧阳修这位北宋诗文革新运动的领袖，对于韩愈这位唐代古文运动领袖的推崇。韩愈擅古文，并非以诗称擅者，《北湖》又非韩愈有名的文章，而欧阳公熟知，可见韩愈诗文之被推重。结句“取乐于山泉”，总结了建亭的心旨，为下文议论的生发作了铺垫，既有“总上”之功，又是“启下”之设。
文章第三段的议论，文眼在“乐”字上。承上段“取乐于山泉”，引出“公之乐，吾能言之”，这句总领全段，来说明欧阳修之“乐”的内涵。第三段有两处璧瑕：其一是，曾巩把“夷狄乌兽草木”，列在一起。反映出了他的“大汉族”的封建正统意识，对汉族以外的少数民族的歧视；其二是，曾巩把当时的宋王朝的统治讴歌为“吾君优游而无为于上，吾民给足而无憾于下”是失实的。虽然，这是当时文章通行的一种时代局限，但毕竟是白璧之瑕。欧阳修的山水之乐，也不是太平盛世的一种移情只不过是在被贬蒙诬中，表现了一种旷达的情志而已。滁州是个小州，无从施展抱负，只好纵山水之情罢了。
文章第四段文眼在“难得”二字，“几百年才能有这相的”，写欧阳修之贤难得。现在的人，还没有理解这一点，但百年、千年之后，人们一定会确认这个问题。蕴含的意思是：历史自有公论。欧阳修以流言攻讦被贬到滁州，身被非誉之名，且有涉罪之嫌，正所谓“周么恐惧流言日”者，曾巩的“公之贤”难遇”说，既是殉流言的反击，也是对欧阳修的声援。当世人不能理解欧阳修，后世人自垫有公论。这是曾巩的一段曲笔。

曾巩（1019年9月30日－1083年4月30日，天禧三年八月二十五日－元丰六年四月十一日），字子固，世称“南丰先生”。汉族，建昌南丰（今属江西）人，后居临川（今江西抚州市西）。曾致尧之孙，曾易占之子。嘉祐二年（1057）进士。北宋政治家、散文家，“唐宋八大家”之一，为“南丰七曾”（曾巩、曾肇、曾布、曾纡、曾纮、曾协、曾敦）之一。在学术思想和文学事业上贡献卓越。
