译文
向着北方边疆一路前行，凛冽的北方吹散了骏马的嘶鸣，教人听不真切。在遥远的边塞，萧瑟的深秋季节，我的心久久不能平静。
夕阳下，荒烟飘在废弃的营垒和关隘上，令人不禁想起古往今来金戈铁马的故事，心潮起伏不平。
注释
浣溪沙：词牌名，本唐教坊曲名，又名《浣沙溪》、《小庭花》等。双调四十二字，五平韵。
那畔：那边。
若为：怎为。
荒戍垒：荒凉萧瑟的营垒。戍：保卫。
浣溪沙·身向云山那畔行创作背景
康熙二十一年（1682年）八月，纳兰受命与副都统郎谈等出使觇梭龙打虎山，十二月还京，此篇大约作于此行中，抒发了奉使出塞的凄惘之情。

浣溪沙·身向云山那畔行鉴赏
“身向云山那畔行”，起句点明此行之目的地，很容易联想起同是纳兰的“山一程，水一程，身向榆关那畔行”。“北风吹断马嘶声。”“北风”言明时节为秋，亦称“秋声”。唐苏颋《汾上惊秋》有：“北风吹白云，万里渡河汾。心绪逢摇落，秋声不可闻”。边地北风，从来都音声肃杀，听了这肃杀之声，只会使人愁绪纷乱，心情悲伤。而纳兰在此处云“北风吹断马嘶声”。听闻如此强劲，如此凛冽的北风，作者心境若何，可想而知。难怪他会感慨“深秋远塞若为情”。
下片。“一抹晚烟荒戍垒，半竿斜日旧关城”以简古疏墨之笔勾勒了一幅充满萧索之气的战地风光侧面。晚烟一抹，袅然升起，飘荡于天际，营垒荒凉而萧瑟；时至黄昏，落日半斜，没于旗杆，而关城依旧。词中的寥廓的意境不禁让人想起王维的“大漠孤烟直，长河落日圆”以及范仲淹的“千嶂里，长烟落日孤城闭”。故而张草纫在《纳兰词笺注》前言中言，纳兰的边塞词“写得精劲深雄，可以说是填补了词作品上的一个空白点”。然而平心而论，无论是“一抹晚烟荒戍垒，半竿斜日旧关城”、“万帐穹庐人醉，星影要摇欲坠”，还是“山一程、水一程，身向榆关那畔行，夜深千帐灯”，纳兰都不过是边塞所见所历的白描，作者本身并没有倾注深刻的生命体验，这类作品的张力无法与范仲淹“塞下秋来风景异”同日而语。不过，纳兰的边塞词当中那种漂泊的诗意的自我放逐感的确是其独擅。比如该篇的结尾“古今幽恨几时平”，极写出塞远行的清苦和古今幽恨，既不同于遣戍关外的流人凄楚哀苦的呻吟，又不是卫边士卒万里怀乡之浩叹，而是纳兰对浩渺的宇宙，纷繁的人生以及无常的世事的独特感悟，虽可能囿于一己，然而其情不胜真诚，其感不胜拳挚。
历史原因与环境原因以及词人自身的性格交织在一起，天时、地利、人和，造就了这一曲边塞苍歌。全词除结句外，均以写景为主，景中含情，纳兰的一草一木皆有灵性：虽然作者一直未曾直接抒发要表达的情感，但人们从字里行间揣摩出作者的感受。“吹断”二字写尽了北国秋冬之险恶，“若为情”的发问中带出了作者对到任的迷茫与不安。环境险恶，前途未卜，纳兰胸中风起云涌：怀古之心，恋乡之情，忧虑之思，纷纷扰扰难以平静。此时边关的云烟、堡垒、落日均染上了情绪的色彩。整个边关不再是唐人笔下的雄浑、苍凉、悲壮，取而代之的是满目萧瑟的冷清与破败。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
