惨惨菅屦，可以履霜。累累鸡骨，可以支床。靡爱匪生，靡忧匪死丧。
心之忧矣，沦胥以亡。有怆几筵，祖考皇皇。
皇祖曰咨，咨我孺子。如孑如遗，如惄如饥。藐躬不阅，遑恤我私。
夙兴夜寐，靖共是祇。子慎无疚，无一人贻疵。
皇祖曰咨，咨我孺子。汝杜门以作慝，峻用惂德。譬彼曀阴，当日而蚀。
譬彼飘风，忽自南北。动曰予智，鲜不为僻。
皇祖曰咨，咨我孺子。子心匪石，曾是不可矶。维渊维岳，维德之基。
毋失寻丈，而矜毫釐。毋耘人之田，而忘其饥。
皇祖曰咨，咨我孺子。子有粱肉，不可以扶羸。子有药石，不可以起死灰。
非药石是谬，子方徘徊。取道不远，有觉者谁。先民有言，惟果确是资。

神以知几，几泯神定。于戏不显，立天之命。

刘宗周（1578—1645），字起东，别号念台，汉族，明朝绍兴府山阴（今浙江绍兴）人，因讲学于山阴蕺山，学者称蕺山先生。他是明代最后一位儒学大师，也是宋明理学（心学）的殿军。他著作甚多，内容复杂而晦涩。他开创的蕺山学派，在中国思想史特别是儒学史上影响巨大。清初大儒黄宗羲、陈确、张履祥等都是这一学派的传人。刘宗周的思想学说还具有承先启后的作用。当代新儒家学者牟宗三甚至认为，刘宗周绝食而死后，中华民族的命脉和中华文化的命脉都发生了危机，这一危机延续至今。
