浪涌孤亭起，是当年、蓬莱顶上，海风飘坠。帝遣江神长守护，八柱蛟龙缠尾。斗吐出、寒烟寒雨。昨夜鲸翻坤轴动，卷雕翚、掷向虚空里。但留得，绛虹住。
译文：垂虹亭浪潮涌起，想当年蓬莱山顶上海风直吹，摇摇欲坠。天帝派遣江神守护，八根柱子上有八条蛟龙环绕，并能喷烟吐雨，好不威风气派。昨晚巨鲸翻动了地轴，把飞檐抛到天空，只把垂虹桥留了下来，只留下一座横跨的垂虹。
注释：贺新郎：词牌名，原名《贺新凉》，又名《金缕曲》等，双调一百十六字，上下片各十句六仄韵。吴江：即吴淞江。孤亭：即垂虹亭。蓬莱：传说中海上仙山。帝：天帝。八柱骄龙缠尾：指亭中八根柱子上雕饰蛟龙缠绕。斗：争着。坤轴：地轴、地心。雕翚：指亭上雕饰的飞檐。翚，雉鸟名。绛虹：赤色的彩虹，此处特指虹桥。
五湖有客扁舟舣，怕群仙、重游到此，翠旌难驻。手拍阑干呼白鹭，为我殷勤寄语；奈鹭也、惊飞沙渚。星月一天云万壑，览茫茫、宇宙之何处？鼓双楫，浩歌去。
译文：太湖中有客舟靠岸，群仙若真的到此，宏大的队伍如何在此驻足。我焦急地手拍栏杆，想派善飞的白鹭前去送信，制止群仙前来，然而白鹭也因昨夜的重大变故远遁沙渚。眼见星月满天，宇宙茫茫，什么地方是安全的避难所？暂且摇动双橹，高吟浩歌，四海流浪吧。
注释：五湖：指太湖。客：作者自指；舣：船靠岸。翠旌：皇帝的仪仗、此处指群仙。奈：奈何，无奈。沙渚：江中沙洲。浩歌：放声高歌。

蒋捷（生卒年不详），字胜欲，号竹山，宋末元初阳羡（今江苏宜兴）人。先世为宜兴巨族，咸淳十年（1274）进士。南宋亡，深怀亡国之痛，隐居不仕，人称“竹山先生”、“樱桃进士”，其气节为时人所重。长于词，与周密、王沂孙、张炎并称“宋末四大家”。其词多抒发故国之思、山河之恸 、风格多样，而以悲凉清俊、萧寥疏爽为主。尤以造语奇巧之作，在宋季词坛上独标一格，有《竹山词》1卷，收入毛晋《宋六十名家词》本、《疆村丛书》本；又《竹山词》2卷，收入涉园景宋元明词续刊本。
