译文
中兴赵宋王朝的众将，谁是万人敬仰的英雄？只有岳飞。与常人一样葬身草莽，精神却鼓舞着民众，虽死犹生。他年少时崛起于河朔，曾拉开两担力的硬弓，佩带三尺龙泉剑。他平定襄阳、江汉，拓开虢州、洛阳一带的战场，清洗了洞庭湖的战乱。北望帝京，狡兔仍在，良犬却被先烹杀了。路过旧时的战场，身为荆鄂遗民，长忆已故岳将军，悲泪如倾。
话说当年岳飞蒙难，遗恨悲苦，朝廷指责他不遵奉诏书，是真是假？臣子有罪，假如陛下圣明，可以亲自鉴别考察，岳飞不愿班师回朝完全出于一片赤胆忠心。从来分封诸侯，终究轮不到旧时的奸臣。人世间的黑夜，一旦太阳普照，忽然变得明朗。岳飞终于身着王侯的礼服，接受百姓祭拜，九泉之下也应感到荣耀，感激君恩。且看每年的三月，满地野花的春天，人们祭祀迎神，以尊王侯的大礼，祭祀岳飞英灵。
注释
六州歌头：词牌名，双调一百四十三字，上片十九句八平韵八叶韵，下片二十句八平韵十叶韵。
岳鄂王庙：即岳飞庙。岳飞，宋时抗金名将。
万人英：万人之中的英豪。
身草莽：指岳飞家境贫寒，曾做过人家的庄客。
气填膺：谓忠义之气，填塞胸臆。膺，胸。
年少起河朔：指岳飞年轻时就在中原黄河以北从军抗金，报效国家。
弓两石：指岳飞当时臂力过人，能开两石之弓。古代以一百二十斤为一石。
剑三尺：手提三尺宝剑。
定襄汉：指岳飞在高宗绍兴初年平定襄阳、汉阳等六郡，为恢复中原打下基础。
开虢洛：指绍兴十年（1140）岳飞郾城大捷，先后收复虢州（今河南灵宝）、洛京（今河南洛阳）、东虢（今河南荥阳）一带大片国土，乘胜进军朱仙镇，离汴京（今开封）只有四十五里。
洗洞庭：指岳飞镇压了以杨么为首的聚集在洞庭湖的农民起义军。
望帝京：谓岳飞军队距汴京很近。帝京，即汴京。
狡兔：指秦桧之流。
良犬：指岳飞。
营垒：指岳飞军营。
不奉诏：指秦桧等诬陷岳飞“受诏不救淮西罪”，赐死狱中。诏，皇帝的命令文书。
鉴临：审查，监视。
分茅土：古代皇帝分封诸侯时，用茅草包社坛某方之土授受封者，以示其为某方王侯。
衮（gǔn）：古代皇帝及上公的礼服。佩：贵族身上佩带的玉器。冕：古代帝王、诸侯、卿大夫的礼帽，后专指皇冠。圭：贵族上朝手中所持的玉制礼器。
九泉：指底层最深处，即阴间。
卤簿：本为帝王驾出时仪仗。汉以后，后妃、太子和大臣出行时皆有。此指每年三月在庙前迎神赛会。

六州歌头·题岳鄂王庙创作背景
宋高宗时，岳飞被秦桧以“莫须有”的罪名陷害，后孝宗为其平反昭雪。宁宗嘉泰四年（1204），岳飞被追封为鄂王，同年，刘过西游汉沔（今武汉），途经岳飞庙，作此词凭吊岳飞。

六州歌头·题岳鄂王庙鉴赏
全词热烈赞扬了岳飞为南宋王朝的中兴所作的奉功伟绩和他“精忠报国”的爱国品质，表达了对迫害忠良的投降派的强烈鞭达；词人不光为英雄一哭，更是为了寄希望于当时的宁宗皇帝，激励和鼓舞长期受到压抑的主战派将领抗敌御侮的决心，实现社稷一统的宿愿。
上片是追叙概述岳飞的生平事迹。开头两句以问代赞，点出岳飞是万人之中的英雄。下面“身草莽”四句，是说岳飞的浩气长存，精神永在，虽死犹生。从“年少起河朔”到“洗洞庭”，用洗炼的语言高度概括了岳飞的英雄事迹：早年从军，武艺高强，南征北战，屡建战功。“北望帝京”，是说岳飞时刻不忘收复中原失地。“狡兔依然在，良犬先烹”是写岳飞壮志未酬身先死的悲惨命运。过去是打败了敌人之后才杀功臣，可如今敌人还在，岳飞就被杀害了，这历史的悲剧令人气愤。“过旧时营垒”以下四句，写出了处在水深火热之中的人民，对岳飞的深挚怀念与无比热爱之情。
下片抒写对岳飞被害的感慨和岳飞冤案得到昭雪后的盛况。“说当年事”，“知恨苦”，是以与岳飞谈话的口气，表露出对英雄不幸遭遇的无比同情。紧接着“不奉诏，伪耶真”的反问，有力驳斥了秦桧一伙强加给岳飞的罪名。“臣有罪”四句，是对支持秦桧杀害岳飞的宋高宗明褒实贬，言外之意是如果皇帝能明察忠奸真伪，就不会酿成岳飞惨死的千古奇冤了。“万古茅土”三句，是对古往今来奸臣下场的概括，断定当时的奸臣也绝没有好下场，表现出一种激愤之情。“人世夜”三句，是说茫茫黑夜必将被光明白日所代替，岳飞的冤案终于得以昭雪。下面三句就写想象中的岳飞冤案昭雪后无比荣耀的盛况，岳飞的勃勃英姿又焕然一新，重现世上。最后三句，写百姓对岳飞的怀念与祭奠，表达出人民也是作者爱憎分明的感情。
整首词写得大气磅礴，气势凛然，围绕凭吊的主旨，将一首长调写得气脉贯通，一气呵成，足见作者的功力。

刘过（1154～1206）南宋文学家，字改之，号龙洲道人。吉州太和（今江西泰和县）人，长于庐陵（今江西吉安），去世于江苏昆山，今其墓尚在。四次应举不中，流落江湖间，布衣终身。曾为陆游、辛弃疾所赏，亦与陈亮、岳珂友善。词风与辛弃疾相近，抒发抗金抱负狂逸俊致，与刘克庄、刘辰翁享有“辛派三刘”之誉，又与刘仙伦合称为“庐陵二布衣”。有《龙洲集》、《龙洲词》。
