译文
寄居在外的夜晚要怎么挨过？梦里有她倚着窗子与我吟诗作对，她故作嗔怪。强作笑颜道：你如果不是心绪这般凄凉，会来与我相聚吗？
无奈来去都太过匆匆，本来打算让你陪我到晨钟敲响的时候，但你才刚依偎着我，一片灯花坠落，惊醒了我的梦，你已经不见了，眼见只有寺院里的长明灯在闪烁。
注释
寻芳草：词牌名，又名《王孙信》，双调五十二字，上片四句四仄韵，下片四句三仄韵。
萧寺：佛寺。相传梁武帝萧衍造佛寺，命萧子云书飞白大字“萧寺”。后世遂以萧寺为佛寺之称谓。
怎生：怎样，怎么。
吟和：吟诗唱和。
薄嗔（chēn）：佯笑:假意嗔怒、故作嗔怪。佯（yáng）笑：假装笑貌。
恁（nèn）：如此。
准拟：准备、打算。
晓钟敲破：晨钟敲醒，惊破好梦。
乍：刚。灯花堕（duò）：灯花坠落。灯花坠落：灯芯燃烧时结成的花状物。堕：坠落。
瑠璃火：此指琉璃灯，即用角质透明的灯罩遮罩之灯火。

寻芳草·萧寺记梦创作背景
赵秀亭、冯统一《饮水词笺校》载：“据‘薄嗔’、‘偎人’语，知所梦为亡妻。卢氏既丧，一年始葬。旧习，其柩应暂厝寺庙。视‘肯来么’三字，副题所云‘萧寺’，即卢氏厝灵之庙宇。词作于康熙十七年（1678年）七月之前。”

寻芳草·萧寺记梦鉴赏
上片描写梦境，刻画了在梦里与伊人相会，和她那娇嗔佯笑的动人形象。首句以“客夜怎生过”提问和起，第二句以后便具体描述征人怎生度过孤眠之夜。客夜无聊，他一早便进入梦乡。在梦中，他回到家里，和妻子窗下联诗。鸾笺分韵，红袖添香，闺房之乐，甚于画眉。他还见到，妻子对他“薄嗔佯笑”，怨他归来太晚，以为他只一心一意勤于王事，忘记她独守空房。这上片的几句，把少年夫妻久别重聚的神态，写得跃然欲活。
下片说好梦不长，来去匆匆，所望这欢会能到“晓钟敲破”之时，却忽而梦断，令人不胜怅惘。然而，那一晚回家，相聚的时间很短，天亮时又得匆匆离别。于是这一对会少离多的人，尽量俄延，打算等到“晓钟敲破”，没法再拖延下去时才肯分手。到最后，分手时间真的到了，夫妻俩紧紧偎依在一起，情意缠绵，难分难舍，谁知道，那时灯花一闪，随即熄灭，他们也掉进了黑暗的深潭里。下片这几句，感情真切，词人只约略点染了夫妻不肯分离的情景，便表现出他们夫妻之间感情的深厚。词最后一句，“却对着琉璃火”写得最为精彩。就在灯花一闪的刹那间，征人醒了。原来，在词人眼前的灯，并不是那盏照着夫妻俩在依窗吟和的灯，而是借宿于萧寺里的“琉璃火”。重聚的欢乐，离别的依恋，这一切，原来都是一场春梦。值得注意的是，琉璃佛火，在寂寞的殿堂里闪烁，分外使入感到虚无空幻。午夜梦回，征人对着它回昧着梦里的悲欢离合，此中滋味，真不足为外人道。词中结尾处以空对着孤灯之景戛然而止，扑朔迷离，耐人寻味。
这首词，从梦中重逢写到梦中再别。梦里重逢固然喜出望外，梦中分手，也还掺和着柔情蜜意。然而，作者酣畅地描写客夜梦境的缠绵，却在于表现自己在萧寺的荒凉，表现对妻子的无限思念。梦境与现实的强烈反差，使其凄苦之情具有特殊的感染力。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
