志适不期贵，道存岂偷生？
译文：只期达到明道志，不求富贵怕偷生。
久忘上封事，复笑升天行。
译文：今久淡忘曾上奏，更笑求仙学道人。
注释：封事：奏章。升天行：指求仙学道之举。
窜逐宦湘浦，摇心剧悬旌。
译文：才贬永州司马时，食宿不安心担惊。
注释：摇心：心忧不宁。
始惊陷世议，终欲逃天刑。
译文：先怕横遭世人议，后恐帝王赐死刑。
注释：天刑：朝廷的惩罚。天，上天，指朝廷，皇上。
岁月杀忧栗，慵疏寡将迎。
译文：担心今随岁月去，闲散无事少应承。
注释：将迎：送迎。指人际交往应承。
追游疑所爱，且复舒吾情。
译文：畅游山水本所爱，排遣郁闷舒我情。
石角恣幽步，长乌遂遐征。
译文：幽静石角信步至，远村长乌得空行。
磴回茂树断，景晏寒川明。
译文：茂林遮断石磴路，穿林突现平川明。
旷望少行人，时闻田鹳鸣。
译文：远望但见行人少，时闻田鹳三两声。
风篁冒水远，霜稻侵山平。
译文：风吹竹低远水现，傲霜稻海与山平。
注释：风篁：风吹竹丛。篁，竹丛。
稍与人事间，益知身世轻。
译文：参与人间俗世事，更知小我身世轻。
注释：稍：已，既。
为农信可乐，居宠真虚荣。
译文：为农确有真欢乐，居官满篇虚荣心。
乔木余故国，愿言果丹诚。
译文：朝中不乏栋梁材，但愿为国献忠诚。
注释：丹诚：即赤诚。
四支反田亩，释志东皋耕。
译文：我欲弃官归田园，躬耕东皋慰平生。
注释：四支：即四肢。反：通返。

柳宗元（773年－819年），字子厚，唐代河东（今山西运城）人，杰出诗人、哲学家、儒学家乃至成就卓著的政治家，唐宋八大家之一。著名作品有《永州八记》等六百多篇文章，经后人辑为三十卷，名为《柳河东集》。因为他是河东人，人称柳河东，又因终于柳州刺史任上，又称柳柳州。柳宗元与韩愈同为中唐古文运动的领导人物，并称“韩柳”。在中国文化史上，其诗、文成就均极为杰出，可谓一时难分轩轾。
