昔有医人，自媒能治背驼，曰：“如弓者、如虾者、如环者，若延吾治，可朝治而夕如矢矣。”一人信焉，使治曲驼，乃索板二片，以一置地下，卧驼者其上，又以一压焉，又践之。驼者随直，亦随死。其子欲诉诸官。医人曰：“我业治驼，但管人直，不管人死。”呜呼！今之为官，但管钱粮收，不管百姓死，何异于此医也哉！(自媒一作：自诩)
译文： 从前有个医生，自己夸耀自己能治驼背，他说：“背弯得像弓一样的人，像虾一样的人，像环一样的人，如果请我去医治，保管早上治傍晚就像箭一样笔直了。“有个人相信了他，就让这个医生给他治驼背。医生要来两块门板，把一块放在地上，叫驼背人趴在上面，又用另一块压在上面，然后到门板上践踏。驼背人的背很快就弄直了，但人马上就死了。那人的儿子想要到官府去告状，这个医生却说：“我的职业是治驼背，我只管治驼背，不管人的死活！“
注释： 媒：介绍，夸耀。延：请，邀请。鸣：告发。诩：夸耀。矢：箭。业：职业。昔：以前。使：让。但：只。索：要。直：笔直。以：把。置：安放。于：在。践：践踏。亦：也。欲：想要。诸：兼词，之于。为：做。异：不同。曲环：圆环。欲：想要。但：只。其子欲诉诸官：那人的儿子想要到官府告状。何异于此医哉：与这个医生有什么不同呢？焉：他。

江盈科，字进之，号绿萝山人。湖南桃源人，明万历二十年进士，先后历任长洲县令、大理寺正、户部员外郎、卒于四川提学副使任上。是明朝晚期文坛“公安派”的重要成员之一，诗文理论主张为文应抒发当时代个人的真性情，反对“文必秦汉、诗必盛唐”说法，极力赞成灵性说。
