两牧童入山至狼穴，穴中有小狼二。谋分捉之，各登一树，相去数十步。少倾，大狼至，入穴失子，意甚仓皇。童于树上扭小狼蹄、耳，故令嗥。大狼闻声仰视，怒奔树下，且号且抓。其一童嗥又在彼树致小狼鸣急。狼闻声四顾，始望见之；乃舍此趋彼，号抓如前状。前树又鸣，又转奔之。口无停声，足无停趾，数十往复，奔渐迟，声渐弱；既而奄奄僵卧，久之不动。童下视之，气已绝矣。
译文： 有两个牧童到山里的狼的巢穴里去，巢穴里有两只小狼。他们计划分别捉它们，两人各自爬上一棵树，相距数十步。不一会儿，大狼来了，进窝发现小狼不见了，心里非常惊慌。牧童在树上扭小狼的蹄爪、耳朵，故意让它大声嚎叫。大狼听见声音抬头看，愤怒地跑到树下又叫又抓。另一个牧童在另一棵树上让小狼大声嚎叫。大狼听见声音，四处张望，才看见小狼；于是离开这棵树，快速跑到另一棵树下，像刚才那样狂叫撕抓。前一棵树上的牧童又让小狼嚎叫，大狼又转身扑过去。大狼嘴里没有停止过嚎叫，脚下没有停止过奔跑，这样来回数十次，跑得渐渐慢了，声音渐渐小了；然后大狼奄奄一息，僵直地躺在地上，很久都不动弹。牧童于是从树上下来看，它已经断气了。

蒲松龄（1640－1715）字留仙，一字剑臣，别号柳泉居士，世称聊斋先生，自称异史氏，现山东省淄博市淄川区洪山镇蒲家庄人。出生于一个逐渐败落的中小地主兼商人家庭。19岁应童子试，接连考取县、府、道三个第一，名震一时。补博士弟子员。以后屡试不第，直至71岁时才成岁贡生。为生活所迫，他除了应同邑人宝应县知县孙蕙之请，为其做幕宾数年之外，主要是在本县西铺村毕际友家做塾师，舌耕笔耘，近40年，直至1709年方撤帐归家。1715年正月病逝，享年76岁。创作出著名的文言文短篇小说集《聊斋志异》。
