北斗挂城边，南山倚殿前。
译文：北斗星挂在长安城边，终南山好像依靠在蓬莱三殿前。
注释：蓬莱三殿：唐人皇宫里的大明宫内有紫宸、蓬莱、合元三殿，统称蓬莱三殿。侍宴：陪侍皇帝宴乐。宴，酒席，以酒食款待宾客的宴会。奉敕（chì）：奉皇帝之命。敕，帝王诏令。终南山：也称秦岭，是中国南方和北方、长江和黄河的分界，位于陜西长安城南。主峰太白山，积雪六月天，为长安八景之一，山高约3767公尺，是中国内地的第一高山。唐时吕洞宾曾修道于终南山，为传说中的八仙之一。北斗：七颗星在北天排列，状似舀酒的斗，又称北斗七星。今属大熊星座一部分。南山：指终南山。《诗经·小雅·天保》：“如南山之寿，不骞（亏损、毁坏）不崩。”后世用以象征长寿。
云标金阙迥，树杪玉堂悬。
译文：山上华丽的宫殿耸入云端，精美的楼阁在树梢上高悬。
注释：云标：云端。标，本为树梢，此指云层表面。金阙：天子居住的宫殿。阙，宫门前供瞭望的塔楼。迥：远。杪：树梢；树枝末端。玉堂：此为宫殿的美称，指终南山上精美的建筑。悬：挂、系。
半岭通佳气，中峰绕瑞烟。
译文：半山腰漂浮着清新的瑞气，山峰中环绕着祥瑞的云烟。
注释：佳气：指吉祥的气象。瑞烟：祥瑞的云气。瑞，吉祥的。
小臣持献寿，长此戴尧天。
译文：小臣我持酒向皇帝祝寿，愿永远生活在太平盛世中间。
注释：小臣：诗人对自己的谦称。持献寿：指以终南山向皇帝祝寿。用《诗经·小雅·天保》中“如南山之寿”句意。戴尧天：头顶尧帝之天，比喻生活在圣王统治之下。《论语·泰伯》：“唯天为大，唯尧则之。”尧，黄帝传帝位给尧，国号唐。

杜审言（约645-708），字必简，汉族，中国唐朝襄州襄阳人，是大诗人杜甫的祖父。唐高宗咸亨进士，唐中宗时，因与张易之兄弟交往，被流放峰州（今越南越池东南）。曾任隰城尉、洛阳丞等小官，累官修文馆直学士，少与李峤、崔融、苏味道齐名，称“文章四友”，是唐代“近体诗”的奠基人之一，作品多朴素自然。其五言律诗，格律谨严。
