东南第一名州，西湖自古多佳丽。临堤台榭，画船楼阁，游人歌吹。十里荷花，三秋桂子，四山睛翠。使百年南渡，一时豪杰，都忘却、平生志。
译文：杭州是东南第一名州，西湖自古多有湖山之美。临堤有台榭楼参差，湖上有画船往来如梭，游人到处弄舞歌吹。十里荷花映日娇艳似火，三秋桂子飘香沁人心脾，四周青山风光明媚葱翠欲滴。南渡百年来人们沉醉在西湖，使曾主张抗金的一些豪杰，也都耽于享乐忘却了平生大志。
注释：水龙吟：词牌名，又名《水龙吟令》、《龙吟曲》、《水龙吟慢》、《鼓笛慢》、《小楼连苑》、《海天阔处》、《庄椿岁》、《丰年瑞》，它最早是南北朝时北齐的一组古琴曲。佳丽：俊美，秀丽。台榭：泛指楼台等建筑物。歌吹：唱歌和吹奏。四山：四面的山峰。睛翠：草木在阳光照耀下映射出的一片碧绿色。百年南渡：指靖康二年（1127）宋高宗赵构建立南宋王朝后渡江南下，至南宋灭亡，历一百二十余年，此说百年是约数。平生志：生平大志，此指收复中原，为国立功。
可惜天旋时异，藉何人、雪当年耻。登临形胜，感伤今古，发挥英气。力士推山，天吴移水，作农桑地。借钱塘潮汐，为君洗尽，岳将军泪。
译文：可惜时代更替世换时移，如今靠何人来洗雪这奇耻？登临这地形险固的地方，感伤古今沧桑臣变，振兴国家要充分发挥英雄才气，请来神人力士推倒杭州青山，邀来水伯天吴移走西湖之水，把“销金锅”西湖改造为农桑之地。借钱塘江的潮汐，为君洗尽奸臣误国的悲愤眼泪，以告慰岳飞的在天之灵。
注释：天旋时异：谓时世巨变，指北宋覆亡，南宋偏安江南，时势也与南渡前不同。天旋，比喻世局大变。藉：同“借”，凭借，依靠。当年耻：概言靖康之变，北宋灭亡的国耻。形胜：指地形险要、位置优越、山川壮美之地。发挥：犹抒发。英气：英武豪迈的气概。力士推山：传说古时巴蜀有五丁力士能移山。天吴：海神名。潮汐：在月球和太阳引力的作用下，海洋水面周期性的涨落现象。在白昼的称潮，夜间的称汐。总称“潮汐”。岳将军：指岳飞，南宋抗金名将、民族英雄。
