昔人怀井邑，为有挂冠期。
译文：过去那些离乡求仕的人，他们也时常怀念自己的家乡，但是，他们最终都能在功成名就之后辞官荣归故里。
注释：郡楼：指滑州城楼。赞皇山：山名，在今河北省西南。井邑：乡邑，故里。挂冠：谓辞官。
顾我飘蓬者，长随泛梗移。
译文：叹息自己的仕宦未遇，以致虽然暂得返乡，却不能久留，还要为仕途而继续奔逐。
注释：泛梗：漂浮的桃梗。
越吟因病感，潘鬓入愁悲。
译文：我年来多病，常常产生思乡之情；鬓发发白，但未曾建功立业，愈发感到失意。
注释：越吟：春秋越国人庄舄在楚国做官，不忘故国，病中吟越歌以寄乡思。后用喻思乡之情。潘鬓：西晋诗人潘岳，三十二岁鬓发就开始斑白，作《秋兴赋》以感怀。见《秋兴赋》序。后以指中年鬓发初白。
北指邯郸道，应无归去期。
译文：马上又要离开故乡，这一去归乡无期，不知什么时候能够实现壮志实现，功成名就。
注释：北指邯郸道，应无归去期：从滑州（今河南滑县）归故乡赞皇，经过邯郸（今河北邯郸市），言归乡无期。

李德裕（787—849），字文饶，唐代赵郡赞皇（今河北赞皇县）人，与其父李吉甫均为晚唐名相。唐文宗时，受李宗闵、牛僧儒等牛党势力倾轧，由翰林学士出为浙西观察使。太和七年，入相，复遭奸臣郑注、李训等人排斥，左迁。唐武宗即位后，李德裕再度入相，执政期间外平回鹘、内定昭义、裁汰冗官、协助武宗灭佛，功绩显赫。会昌四年八月，进封太尉、赵国公。唐武宗与李德裕之间的君臣相知成为晚唐之绝唱。后唐宣宗即位，李德裕由于位高权重，五贬为崖州司户。李德裕两度为相，太和年间为相1年8个月，会昌年间为相5年7个月，两次为相7年3个月。
