为范南伯寿。时南伯为张南轩辟宰泸溪，南伯迟迟未行。因作此词以勉之。
掷地刘郎玉斗，挂帆西子扁舟。千古风流今在此，万里功名莫放休。君王三百州。
译文：范增因为项羽不杀刘邦怒而撞碎玉斗，范蠡助越灭吴之后带着西施泛舟五湖。谓英雄之所以能够美名流传，就在于立功万里，为国家和君王效命。
注释：挂帆西子扁舟：用吴越时期越国大臣范蠡在破吴后与西施泛舟五湖的典故。
燕雀岂知鸿鹄，貂蝉元出兜鍪。却笑泸溪如斗大，肯把牛刀试手不？寿君双玉瓯。
译文：燕雀怎么能知道鸿鹄的志向？公侯将相原本出身于普通士卒。可笑泸溪地小如斗，不知道您肯不肯在那里小试牛刀？赠送给您两只玉瓯作为寿礼。
注释：兜鍪：战盔，貂蝉为侍从贵臣所着冠上的饰物。牛刀：这里牛刀是大材，孔子曾以“割鸡焉用牛刀”比喻大材小用。玉瓯：玉制酒杯。

辛弃疾（1140－1207），南宋词人。原字坦夫，改字幼安，别号稼轩，汉族，历城（今山东济南）人。出生时，中原已为金兵所占。21岁参加抗金义军，不久归南宋。历任湖北、江西、湖南、福建、浙东安抚使等职。一生力主抗金。曾上《美芹十论》与《九议》，条陈战守之策。其词抒写力图恢复国家统一的爱国热情，倾诉壮志难酬的悲愤，对当时执政者的屈辱求和颇多谴责；也有不少吟咏祖国河山的作品。题材广阔又善化用前人典故入词，风格沉雄豪迈又不乏细腻柔媚之处。由于辛弃疾的抗金主张与当政的主和派政见不合，后被弹劾落职，退隐江西带湖。
