侯门辞必服，忍位取悲增。
译文：王侯们的责备定当服从，容忍司马之位我日增悲愤。
注释：侯门：指显贵之家。借代朝廷。辞，责备。服：顺服。
去鲁心犹在，从周力未能。
译文：计“堕三都”孔子逃离鲁国，周朝大礼我无力振兴。
注释：去鲁：指孔子离开鲁国。
家山余五柳，人世遍千灯。
译文：陶潜隐居避开尘世的纷争，人世间到处是香烟燎绕的佛灯。
注释：家山：家乡。五柳，陶潜自称五柳先生，这里指躲进佛道以避世。
莫让金钱施，无生道自弘。
译文：不要以为施舍金钱就是佛道，弘扬佛道还需懂得“无灭无生”。
注释：无生：佛教语，指万物的实体无生无灭。

柳宗元（773年－819年），字子厚，唐代河东（今山西运城）人，杰出诗人、哲学家、儒学家乃至成就卓著的政治家，唐宋八大家之一。著名作品有《永州八记》等六百多篇文章，经后人辑为三十卷，名为《柳河东集》。因为他是河东人，人称柳河东，又因终于柳州刺史任上，又称柳柳州。柳宗元与韩愈同为中唐古文运动的领导人物，并称“韩柳”。在中国文化史上，其诗、文成就均极为杰出，可谓一时难分轩轾。
