盐女神有两个弟子，一个姓张，一个姓梅，他俩继续给君王做饭菜，不用盐而以糖做味，放得很多糖，并且是白糖加砂糖，蜂糖加白糖，十碗八扣都是糖。君王一吃，觉得很好。可是没吃几天，君王喊叫吃不下去了，这时张、梅二弟子马上用盐水做味，十碗八扣、五味调合，又香又甜，君王连吃数月不厌。
后来张弟子发明了红案，梅弟子发明了白案，君王越吃越觉得好吃，并说：“到底还是以盐做味好啊。”后来，这位君王被感动了，每年八月初二给屈死的厨师—盐女神让三天位，以表示屈杀盐女神的忏悔之心。
从此以后，人们为祭祀屈死的厨师—“盐女神”，每当八月初二这一天，各家各户都要大做酒席，十碗八扣，在席上放一碗饭，碗上搁一双筷子，将三杯美酒洒在地上，并在桌子下化钱数张，以祭祀盐女神。八月初二这一天，厨房收拾得干干净净，盐罐子要装得满满的，妇女们要换上整洁的衣服。

"三八"指从国际传至我国通用的"三八妇女节"，即每年的3月8日为国际劳动妇女的节日。
三八妇女节18岁以上的所有成年女性的节日。《现代汉语规范字典》中"妇女"一词的含意，仅指"成年女子"并无其他特殊意指。已婚女子被称作"妇人"。也就是说成年女子只要是年满十八岁，就属于是"妇女"的范畴，并不是专指结了婚的女性!它是属于所有年满十八岁周岁以上女性的。"三八"从来非敬语，"白骨精"群起而攻之，不悖情理。但因厌恶"三八"一词而攻诘妇女节，则是选错了靶子。盖三八妇女节是舶来品，"三八"却是土产品。二者巧合，只在字面 。
